Looking for studio type accomodations on the beach

I will be staying in Anguilla in Jan 2011. Can anyone recommend studio type accomodations - kitchenette and small dining area- that is on a beach (like to take long walks) and also convenient to some restaurants and maybe a grocery store and as reasonable as possible. If anyone has been to Turks and Caicios - love Ocean Club West there for price and location.

I think Nathan's Cove is very reasonable - a one bedroom is 350.00/night in January. It is right on Meads Bay beach, - here is an old description of Meads - http://news.ai/ref/meadsbay.html Nathans is situated between Blanchards and Jacala restaurant and close to Straw Hat Restaurant.

Great place for the price, no frills, clean and comfortable.

www.nathanscove.com - the website does not do it justice.

Here is the contact info for the manager in the US - Earle Gumbs

Also take a look at Turtle's Nest. They have Beachview Studio's listed in high season for a little bit less.

The beach is a little better down by Nathan's Cove though. Turtle's Nest is a bit newer and near Straw Hat. Nathan's Cove is near Jacala both a stone's throw away. Both on beautiful Meads Bay with shopping within 5 minutes away by car.

You could also check out the Ferryboat Inn (www.ferryboatinn.ai). Their small one bedrooms are similar to what you were looking for. Their beach is not as nice as Meads Bay, but it is on a beach. There is a restaurant on the premises and Ashley's has a grocery store in Blowing Point which is within walking distance.

It seems pretty obvious to me that Mead's Bay beach accommodations are exactly what you are looking for.

When you say "studio" it conjures up Nathan's Cove, Carimar or Turtle's Nest. However, if you can afford a bit more, do look into Frangipani which also has everything you are looking for but higher in price than the other 3.

All are walking distance to dining places (at least 5), and a grocery store is a good trek up the hill from Malliouhana which is at the end of the beach.

I think you should look at Carimar too - carimar.com. It has a newly renovated kitchen, dining and sitting area, and is right on the beach if you stay in a beach front room. Christine's is a great little market right up the road, and you can walk to Straw Hat, Malliouhana, Jacala, and Blanchard's for great (but not inexpensive) meals. We love Carimar - it doesn't have a pool, but it does have a great ocean and beach!

You definitely can't go wrong with any of the accommodations anywhere on Mead's Bay. Have fun!

All the places recommended are very good choices depending on what you wan to pay. Last t hree times we were on island we stayed at Turtles nest. I would gat a studio in the phase 2 building whici is the newest on the thrid floor. They have a small balcony so you woud get some view. they have a very nice beachfront pool and Straw Hat restaurant is next door. TN is in the process of updating their web site.

Carimar is also very nice. Beachfront units 1 and 6 are more expensive than other units further back on the property. You can also walk from there to Lucy;s and B&D bbque which are local places.as well as those mentioned above.

Frangipani will be more expensive but you might look into unit 7A which is a junior suite with kitchen.

I really don't recommend walking on AXA at night for your personal safety. Taxis are expensive so consider renting a car .

Thanks for responses. Is it ok to walk to close restaurants at night?

I thought Anguilla was supposed to be a pretty safe island.

It is very safe. Walking at night is discouraged because there are no sidewalks and narrow roads, and walking on the beach is difficult because of darkness.
