Fishing on and from Antigua

Silver wedding holiday of a lifetime coming up and was expecting great snorkelling and fishing. Forums suggest both are "not the best"! We have a car for the fortnight and apart from 5 days of cricket will be looking to snorkel and fish. Can anyone give us some information on where would be best please?

Hi

If you want deep sea fishing check:

www.antiguanice.com for some excellent operators.

For snorkeling you could do one of the sailing cats or trips or take a drive down to Galleon beach swim or walk along the rocks out to the Pillars of Hercules for some decent snorkeling. Also try along the rocks at Turners Beach and along the rocks at Long Bay.

Really hope you enjoy your stay, remember you will be seeing Antigua very busy and its not usually like that, maybe come back for the golden wedding to see the real island.

Have fun - Mun

Thanks munmunmun

Useful information from an obvious Antiguan expert. Appreciate the comments about it being busy but couldn't miss the the chance of seeing some high class cricket in the carribean at the same time! Fingers crossed for the Windies team! Have you any information about fishing from the shore, please?

There really isn't any fishing from shore in Antigua, I am sorry to report.

In addition to Munmun's suggestion for fishing off a boat, I would suggest you also contact Rafael Esposito, who is the owner of Le Bistro restaurant: 462-3881 or pgbistro@candw.ag. He has one of the nicest, fastest boats on the island. Prices to match this, unfortunately (but you DID say it is the holiday of a lifetime!!!!).

While snorkeling is not Antigua's biggest draw (due to the dead coral) you will usually find colourful fishes at Long Bay Beach (also known as "Pineapple Beach"), the northern end of Half Moon Bay beach, and the 4th beach at Hawksbill. Taking a boat tour will yield even better places.

Have a lovely time!
