Overnighting in Antigua

Arriving from the UK on 5 September and overnighting at the Amaryllis hotel.

Our onward flight to St Martin leaves at 3pm, so we were planning to get a taxi into St John's to visit the Farmers Market on Saturday morning, then taxi back to hotel for luggage, then on to checkin at the airport.

Once we have offloaded our bags, we thought a nice lunch at the Sticky Wicket would be fun, rather than sitting in the airport.

My questions:

1. Is the Sticky Wicket walking distance or a taxi ride away?

2. How long before takeoff should we be back at the airport for our LIAT flight?

3. Can we pay the departure tax when we check in, or is it yet another queue?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Vegasfan - The Sticky Wicket is just outside the airport - 3 minutes walk at max - you can see the floodlights from the airport. Amazingly green outfield!

You pay the departure tax after you check in, another queue, and before you go to immigration I think it is 50EC or 20 USD.

We usually get there 1 hour before departure, the flights are not always on time, and could be a bit early and ocassionally there is the usual queue

If you flight leaves at 3pm on Saturday you may catch the early arrivals at the airport for the Virgin flight back to the UK. So there may be a few people around, there is also an AA flight that leaves about 2.30pm

The line for paying the immigration fee is usually quite short, remeber it has to be paid in cash, Tyler s correct with the amounts.

Getting into the departure lounge can take time, the immigration officials take a few minutes to proccess each departing guest and then you frequently have to queue for hand luggage scanning. An hour should do.
