cruise stop-vague question

Hello,

In less than two weeks we will be stopping on the island from 8am -5pm. I think the best thing to do would be to hire a guide for the day ,not rent a car. Any thoughts about what we should do for the day? I'm a hobbyist photogragher so photo opportunities are important. Enjoying nature and viewing birds would be nice. I'd also like to chit-chat with the locals,so maybe a couple places to stop for drinks and small talk. Thanks!

If you are not into going to the beach, on your time budget and your info,

I would Suggest Wandering around St. John's and Radcliffe Quay for a little while than Hire a cab(around $80 U.S.) to take you to Nelsons Dockyard and Shirley Heights. Don't be afraid to ask the Cabby to pull over so you can take pictures.

Though you might need to negotiate a bit. Especially if you want to stop at a local bar, not one with 40 other taxis full of cruise-passengers. Most of the taxi-men who sit waiting for the cruise ships have "canned" tours.

Hi

I think you should look at Bettys Hope. I think it is great. Lots of History and photo opportunities. Have a nice day there anyway.
