just curious

We will be chartering a sailboat out of English Harbor and possibly doing the provisioning ourselves. How much can we expect to pay for a case of beer in the local supermarket?

And for a gallon of water? Just trying to get an idea of whether to have Sunsail provision....or do it ourselves.

Thanks.

Not sure what the prices are, but it would be much cheaper to do it yourself.

Thanks. I'm sure it would be much cheaper to do it ourselves.....we were just curious as to what the approximate cost differences would be.

Jolly Harbour supermarket is more expensive than England prices just as an example, so be careful which supermarket you use. For the best prices you'd be best going to one of the local supermarkets in St. John near the nightclub and casino.

It's a long way to go to St. John's for provisions like beer and water, taxi fare ?. You can stock up with those things all in the English Harbour area and Bailey's Supermarket in Falmouth. IMHO it's not worth it, plus there are no supermarkets near the casino any more, Food City (Brysons) closed down.

Hire a taxi and go to the Epicurian in St Johns. They have everything you'll need. Its big.

thanks for the input. I agree with Mark....it seems to make more sense to shop at the supermarket in Falmouth.

I am a bit surprised no one knew the cost of a case of beer or a gallon of water!

I buy Fiji water at the Epicurean, a 1 litre bottle is $7.27 ECD, that's about $2.70 USD. Gallon bottle will work out cheaper also depending on the brand. That includes the tax.

Beer is another matter, Wadadli and Red Stripe will be the cheapest as they are brewed on island. All other beers are imported, (plenty of variety). Cost per case (24 per case) will vary from around $80 ECD to around $120 ECD inc tax. That's between $30 to $50 USD.

Things ain't cheap here !

Mark.
