Does any one know the actual amount of American dollars to the £ when exchanged in Antigua at the mo. Think its about $157. here which is the best it has been for a time.

If you are from Norfolk in the UK, then you would be better avoiding US dollars altogether, and simply use EC dollars, which after all is the national currency of Antigua. You pay commission to buy US dollars, and then pay a premium to use them. In addition you will often get change in ECs, which then gives you two lots of foreign currency in your purse.

You can't exchange sterling to USD in Antigua, other than by using a USD ATM (at the casino). If you want to have a small amount of US currency with you, just buy it in the UK before leaving.

Can you change sterling into EC dollars then. Finding it a littlle confusing about what to get. Do most taxi drivers, bars and tour operaters except both?

What please is the exchange rate for EC dollars then.

The banks happily exchange sterling to EC. You can even buy some (usually need to order it) here before you leave. Last time I looked, M&S and Tesco had the best rate, though the Post office is sometimes competitive too. It won't be nearly as good as getting it on island though. You can exchange cash at the bank, change sterling travellers cheques (usually the best rate of all), draw cash on a debit card over the counter, or use your debit card as usual in an ATM to withdraw local currency.

You can also change currency at your hotel - but the rate will be lousy. Some tour operators happily take sterling as well as USD - but always check with them first. I would recommend taking a few USD to get you to the resort and to use for redcaps, taxi fares etc, but ideally draw some ECD at the ATM at the airport as soon as you get through customs. Saves having to go into town in the first couple of days unless you really want to.
