Turn left out of the airport.

Stay on that road, you come to the first set of lights. Go through them.

Carry on the same road hit the second set of lights and turn left.

Stay on that road and you will come to a round about, go straight on the same road you will see the big cricket stadium on you left.

Carry on the same road until you come to a second smaller roundabout. Take your first left off that roundabout and just keep following that road on and on and on.

Eventually you will come to the village of Wilikies go through the village and carry on and eventually you will come to the Verandah on your right hand side.

Hope that helps.

Regards

Mark.

Photoman's directions are spot-on.

I would merely suggest that, in approaching the village of Willikies (just after Glanvilles; you might think you are still in Glanvilles) you watch carefully for a place that the road used to make a sharp LEFT---and still does, except that that now there is a road straight ahead that is hard to differentiate from the main road.

Try this addition to Photoman's great directions: After the petrol station in Glanvilles, proceed until the next speed-bump. After that, slow down and look for where the main road makes a 90-degree-angle to the left, and follow that.

The good news is, even if you take the wrong road, you'll get to Verandah eventually-----it's a peninsula out here, so just keep proceeding northeast.

I agree with Cessnapilot's advice to watch out for the left turn after the petrol station. It looks as if the road carries straight on and that the left turn is a T junction - but if you miss it you'll end up in the back streets of Willikies, which won't do your car any good!

If I remember right, the left turn is opposite the sign for a truck business - one of our friends on the island will be able to tell you what the sign says.

Thanks everyone for your advice. Would any of you be able to provide directions from the Verandah to Half Moon Bay beach?

Retrace your previous drive, including through the village of Glanvilles (where the petrol station is). Just a bit outside the village, look for a left turn----at the moment there is actually a road sign there pointing to, among other things, Freetown. There is also a bus stop on the left, and a nice light-blue house that has a low white wall.

Proceed on this road until the end----about 2 or 2 1/2 kilometers. At the stop sign, take a left.

Proceed on this road a short distance and take the first right.

Stay on this road----you will pass throught the village of St. Philips with its lovely church and fine views of Willoughby Bay. Remain on this road. The only place where you might get confused is in passing the left turn for Freetown----it's on a downhill part of the road; don't take that left but just proceed on the road you are on.

Eventually you will come to a hilltop where you will have a fine vista of Half Moon Bay and Mill Reef (known as Exchange Bay). Everybody stops and takes photos here! Proceed down the hill and at the hill bottom where the road makes a sharp left bend towards Mill Reef, proceed instead straight ahead on the dirt road (should you make a mistake here, you will soon encounter Mill Reef's gate). You'll pass Smiling Harry's Bar, and soon come to the Half Moon Bay car park.

There's very little shade on Half Moon so bring sunscreen!

Just beyond St Philips (I think) is a really nice roadside cafe, overlooking a small lake. The owner is lovely (her sister works at Grand Pineapple Beach)and the food is fab.

Half Moon Bay isn't very well signposted, so follow the instructions above. But it's well worth the trip, especially if you want to do some snorkelling (and quiet - possibly because of the lack of signs!).

After you park your car and start walking toward HMB, the beach to your right can have a good amount of surf, while the beach to your left is very much calmer and is where you would snorkel.

Cheers,
