Have a look at Tranquility Bay http://www.tranquilitybayantigua.com/ you have jolly harbour a couple of mins walk away with restaurants and bars also have castaways on Jolly Beach
How would you compare Tranquility Bay area to Rodney Bay?
The two best areas for s/c are definitely the SW coast - Jolly Harbour (best value) / Tranquility Bay / many private villas in the area - or the Dickenson Bay area - look at Buccaneer Beach Club or Siboney. Both have a good choice of places to eat and drink within walking distance, with the latter being right on the beach.
Rodney Bay is much busier and has more options to eat out but i prefer Tranquility Bay/Jolly Harbour it is much cleaner and to me feels a lot safer and the beaches around there are far far better than anything in SL
Just noticed you stayed in BGBR as we did i can honestly say as lovely as that resort is Tranquility bay beats it hands down,

Hi Kelly and all who replied
Did like BGBR in SL but been there and would go back someday. Will take a good long look at your recomendations, we are stuck between Antigua or Barbados at present, are the eating out prices on par with SL? We stayed about 15 years ago at Dickinson Bay Cottages which is across the road from the Halcyon Rex hotel but then there was not really much to do but eat at a pizza place or on the rexs pier
No eating out in Antigua is cheaper to be honest we all thought SL was very expensive to eat out !!!
The Jolly Harbour area is much smaller than Rodney Bay, with something like a tenth of the number of bars and restaurants that you find in Rodney Bay. Reduit beach is nice, but the beach at Jolly Harbour / Tranquility is better, and a big plus is that you don't get the hoards of cruise ship passengers that you find at Spinnakers.
