Okay, I'm sure we will like it, what' not to like, but will we LOVE it? We are trying to pick a vacation spot for Oct 8-15th and we want to make a good decision. We recently went to Turks and Caicos and left less than impressed. Let me tell you why and a little about us and what we like and maybe you can help us make sure we pick the right place. Thanks!!
Why we didn't really love T+C: Absolutely nothing to do other than sit on the beach and mostly the one at the resort as there were only a few others to explore. Expensive - all dinners out were $100US minimum for 2 entrees and 2 drinks (alcoholic). No local culture - nothing unique to T+C...not a food or drink or dance or music. No central town area - 'town' consisted of some strips of upscale jewelry stores, a few real estate shops, 1 or 2 ice cream places.
About us: upper 30s, no kids, well-traveled, independent travelers that like a bit of pampering, but definitely are not all-inclusive resort types of people. AI's may be okay if they are small and we are on the brekkie only plan. Prefer our own condo so we can make our own brekkie and lunch and then eat out dinner each night. 100% of the time we rent a car so we can explore every nook and cranny of the island. We enjoy finding the dive bars and restaurants locals eat at. Really enjoy day trips to secluded beaches, hiking to island lookouts, and finding the areas of the island that tourists normally don't explore. On the whole we love adventure and are more of the go, go, go type of vacationer, however do to recent surgeries (foot and leg) we are more limited, but we still enjoy getting out and about.
For example, we loved St John (rented a private 1 bedroom condo - simple but had a cooler and beach chairs and we were in heaven each day driving to a different beach)
Loved Barbados (HM so we stayed in a very nice hotel), but had a jeep and drove all over the island. Restaurants were great. Loved the culture.
Loved Grand Cayman (rented a 2 bdr house - insane deal on this one...right on the beach!!!) Blended up our own island drinks each night and watched the sunset. Loved that we had the pool next door from the Marriott as a privlege, but had a car to get out and about and explore. Lots to do and see in the Caymans.
Do you think we'd enjoy Antigua? If so, where do you think we'd like to stay? We were considering Blue Waters (I know, I know it's an AI, but we'd only be on the brekkie plan...it's a good deal so that is why I'm considering it.) We would get a car for sure. Thoughts?
