One day in Antigua:Want a great beach day

I will be in Antigua April 18. I want a few hours on a great beach. How far is Turner's Beach from the cruise ship pier? How much is a taxi there? Will taxis be there when we are ready to leave? Thanks for your help.

Turners is about 20 minutes away. The fare (for up to 4 people travelling together) should be $US26 each way.

You can arrange with your driver to collect you at a suitable time. Don't pay until the return journey ;)

Yes. If you have lunch at one of the bars or restaurants, you may well not have to pay for them.

You might want to try lunch at the excellent Keyonna's (northern end of the beach) rather than Turners beach bar itself. There are also Gibsons or OJ's, both of which are good.

Thank you for the reply. Is Turner's a good choice? I am looking for a beach not over run with cruise ship passengers (like me:) :), but not too far from the ship. I have heard the horror stories of missing the ship.

Turners is a nice beach. If you really want to avoid the crowds, you might want to stop one beach sooner at Darkwood. It's a beatiful beach, with a local beach bar (and restrooms etc). Rustic, but with stunning views across to Montserrat and a great place to swim and sunbathe.

The "rustic" beach bar at Darkwood does a mean Goat Curry - and even when there were cruise ships in port there were never more than about 20 people on the whole beach when we were there

last month.

Do they have any other food choices? Since we are on a cruise, we may stay a few hours and return to the ship for a late lunch. I was asking about renting the chairs and umbrellas since we may not want to eat, but will need to drink something. Do they have alcoholic beverages?
