Depends entirely on how wet it's been. If it's very wet, there will be more bugs around, but in general, they're really not a big deal.

There are actually not that many mosquitos around, and it's relatively easy to avoid being stung - most bites come from sand flies or no see 'ums.

as in the link - DEET based repellent. Avoid the beach around sunrise/sunset if you're not protected. Long pants.

Not sure what the lemon juice is supposed to do?

Does it contain the same chemicals as citronella?

I would advise against DEET: It is terribly toxic. I have not tried lemon juice, but there are some more natural products on the market, with citronella, for example. I heard of one called "Buzz Off".

I would definitely bring fly repellent; the severity of the insects will be determined by how much rain you get as well as location.. The eastern side of the island was less buggy than the west, in my experiencce.

We were on Antigua last month and I was amazed at the number of bites I had - 3 at the most! I am normally a total mozzie magnet! I used a repellent called Repel 55, and the children used Mosquito Milk. We had 2 days of heavy rain which may have bought them out, had it not rained I may have been bite free!

I will look for those products; if you only had a handful of bites, you were lucky We were human pin cushions.
