Beach recommendations shortish distance from St James club

Going in a months time, dont really want to hire a car, which lovely beaches are near st james club and If we get a cab there will we be able to get one back? Also hate being hassled on beaches by venders etc so is this common?

Realistically, the only ones relatively nearby are at English Harbour - Galleon Beach or Pigeon Beach - both of which have good places to eat etc on them. You should have no problem arranging return transport for either.

However, nothing's that far away from anywhere on Antigua, so it's perfectly feasible to arrange to visit almost any beach you like the look of - the only difference will be that the cab fares get higher.

Most beaches with resorts will have vendors, but they certainly aren't a problem - in fact most of them are just lovely and well worth chatting to. A simple 'no thank you' is fine, but if want the odd souvenir, it's a great way to get them rather than going into town or using expensive resort gift shops.

Apart from the two at St. James, none within walking distance.

I've been at Galleon twice in the past month, don't remember seeing any vendors there.

That being said, local vendors are a great way to ensure that your local dollars make it straight back to the community, and a few dollars. Either way, the local vendors don't usually hassle much (or at all) so if you choose to go to another beach, you'll be fine.

I think you'd enjoy having a car for a couple of days - it really opens up the whole island and can be a lot of fun - plus you get to set your own timetable rather than having to think about anyone else.

There is a rental desk at the hotel, or you could use Titi, who are very well thought of and are located just in English Harbour - they'll deliver and pick up for you.
