Travel and routing advice from Australia

Hi experts,

We are considering a trip to Antigua Race Week for a friends 60th birthday.

Can anyone advise on best travel route from Australia?

Happy to consider a compromise of cost versus comfort and possibly breaking the journey for a day due to distance and multiple flights.

Thanks in anticipation.

Two opions really. Via London Gatwick, or with Quantas to LA, on to Miami and then down to Antigua. Either way, a hell of a journey.

Would advise you check seat availability before settling on route. A great many sailors come from London so flights London to Antigua shortly before and back again after the Week can get full booked. Similarly accomodation around the English Harbour area gets full too. You can usually get accomodation up the west coast but the drive/taxi back and forth over the hill rapidly gets very tiresome very quickly.

My trusty globe and piece of string says Pacific route is shorter. Hence, via LAX and MIA. AA flies daily MIA - ANU non-stop. Other options, a bit further in mileage, might be LAX JFK ANU or Air Canada via Vancouver and Toronto. QF does Sydney to Santiago but service from South America to Antigua is minimal to zero.

Thank you everyone for your advice and ideas.

I had come to the conclusion that the Pacific route would be shorter.

Had not considered via Canada which is appealing as we have relatives and friends there.
