Tipping at an All Inclusive resort?

We are going to Cocobay Resort in November, we have never been to an all inclusive resort, so should we tip daily and as we drink at the bar or do we do it at the end of the holiday?

And what is the rate, 10 - 15% or 15 - 20%?

Thanks for your help in advance!

We have not been to this resort so I think the easiet thing to say is to play it by ear. At some places we have been we have tipped after each drink eg IUSD and sometimes, each day, depending on if you have seen the same person each time, at others we have tipped at the end of week 1 (maybe 20USD) and then before we left. We have received some outstanding service and so have tipped then and then often that member of staff will really look after you. (but there maybe a policy regarding tips and so you need to be careful how you do it- so a handshake delivery is often best)It is really appreciated by staff as is a simple please and thankyou and asking how they are- which is something that a lot of tourists seem to forget

Tipping "as you go" is definitely not required or normal practice at an AI resort. If you check your paperwork, you may even find that gratuities are included in your package.

That said, a cash tip at the end of your stay to staff who've done a good job never hurts. Alternatively, you could ask staff if there is a tip pool and pay into that. Some places provide an envelope for the purpose.

Totally agree with Steve !

I've seen folks tip at an AI per drink but it really doesn't get them any faster service ... and it shouldn't.

Do check when you arrive as some resorts actually do not allow staff to accept tips - and you don't want to put them in an awkward position.

If there is no comment about tipping then we tip to reward good service - usually the chambermaid, restaurant and bar staff - and if there is one we put something into a "general" tip fund for the people that don't usually get tips - like garden and ktichen staff. The advice we've received is around US$10 per week per person - but really it's up to you.

As Steve-Ch says - tipping "as you go" is not and should not be required in an AI resort.
