What to do while in Aruba/Rennaisance Marriott

My husband and I are visiting Aruba for the first time for our 5th. year anniversary. We have never been to Aruba and interested in things to do while we are there. I know I am asking alo but what suggestions do you have for resturants and activities? In addition, are there any tips out there for securing a wonderful ocean view suite?

You will love the Ren! The front desk will offer an upgrade ~ provided they are available for a small fee.

We feel that the Ocean Suites offer the best of both worlds. Being in town gives you the opportunity to be close to shopping, etc. The Private Island is simply amazing. We typically spend our days at the Private Island & do one day up in the High Rise/ Low Rise area.

The Private Island has two sides ~ a family side & adult side. The PI has non motorized water sports available for rent, tennis courts ( raquets for rent) and a fitness center. There is also a resturant w/ service at the hammocks, palapas, chairs. The restaraunt is fairly reasonable ( sandwiches, salads, etc). Although they are no permitted, we do bring a small cooler filled with beverages from the Convience Store in the Ren. Marketplace.

The Ren. Marketplace adjacent to the Ocean Suites has a small amount of shops and restaurants. American chains include: Sbarro, Taco Bell, Subway, Dunkin Donuts. For breakfast, we love the Dutch Pancake house. It seems as if people love or hate this place.

At the Ren Marina Hotel, there is a nice shopping area featuring some high end shopping. There is also a Spa ( pretty good), fitness center and pool. The resturants include Aqauris ( typical Marriott Breakfast Buffet / Dinner. We have heard that the Seafood Buffet is out of this world though).,LG Smith's Chop House ( one of our favorite resturants on the Island - grab some $109 dinner for two vouchers on Marriott.com for a terrific 4 course dinner), BLU Martini ( Fabulous place for drinks - Beneto box dinners are served too). The Casino is the only one on the Island opened 24 hours.

Some resturants near the hotel that are totally walkable ( definitely do LG Smith's one night though) : Driftwood ( great for the first night - terrific fresh seafood), El Gaucho ( fabulous), Que Pasa & Iguana Joe's ( great ribs, drinks & very very reasonable). Marandi is a $6 cab ride and is also a must. The view and teh food are amazing.

Again, we typically do one day at the High / Low rise area. It is very easy to hop in a cab ($20) or bus. There are some fun snorkeling & sails that leave from the High Rise. It is also fun to experience a restaurant up there one night too).

Thank-you so much Heather. I have one question... Where do you find the Marriott dinner vouchers?

I am in my late 20's & my husband is in his 30's and we love staying there.

We love the Private Island & being within walking distance to some good nightlife ( and resturants too). At the hotel, BLU Martini is a great place to have drinks at, as is The LG Smith Lounge after 11:00 pm ( champange cocktails are wonderful there). T

he casino is also open all night. The bars & clubs outside of the hotel are also a lot of fun ( I do agree when people do say to exercise caution). Some of our favorites outside of the hotel are: Paddock, Iguana Joe's, Bahia and Carlos n Charlies.

BTW ~ the Marina Hotel is Adults only. Personally, we only stay at the Ocean Suites. Some complain that there are too many children, but we have never experienced any issues.

No, I don't have any specfic information why.

As with any place, I think people just extend caution to one another when they are traveling abroad ~ especially in clubs late night after people have been drinking.
