Aruba Weather in the summer

I am planning a trip with my husband to Aruba next Summer (July) and I want to stay at the Bucuti. The problem is I've been told that it is extremely hot and windy there in the summer and another Caribbean island may be better (such as BVI or St John). I was thinking of Aruba because it's a straight flight from Newark ( I hate switching flights) and the hotels are much more reasonably priced then in BVI or St. John. Any comments would be appreciated.

The weather is fine in the summer. The weather is pretty much the same all year round, upper 80's low 90's. Yes it is hot but it is the trade winds that make it bearable. It is hot all over the carribean in the summer but they don't have the "natural air conditioning" that Aruba has.

When people hear wind they seem to assume the worst. Truth is after the first day you are already used to it and you welcome it.

The true reality check is when you get home and walk out of the airport in Newark during JULY...you will be desperately seeking that wind.

Yes I agree, with the ave. temp durning the day being 90, I think without the wind, it would be unbearable. I tan very easily and have no problem sitting on the beach all day long, but in aruba I push my beach chair under the hut. The sun is very strong, but the trade winds make it very nice.

Once you go to Aruba, you will be hooked as I am. The people are fantastic, the food is great, the beach and the water is to die for.

Growing up in Phila, Pa and summer's at the South Jersey beaches are tolerable. The water is dirty, and the beach is dirty all the time, so going to the carribean is wonderful. We are never at the pool, maybe a quick dip, after the beach and that is it.

I will be back in Aruba in 11 days, and I am looking forward to going back for the 6th time.

I understand your hesitation with the wind/extreme heat. My husband and I just returned from Aruba (our first trip) and can't wait to go back. We have been to several Caribbean islands. We welcomed the gentle winds during the day while at the beach and tours of the island. Not once, did my husband have "sweat" rolling off his face as with the other islands we have vacationed over the past several years. We biked and enjoyed the wind. We were there a week (July 8 - 16th) and were very sad to leave. I hope this helps with easing your mind. Another point, Aruba has never had a hurricane. When we planned our trips to St. John, D. Republic, St. Kitts, Bahamas, etc.--we always worried about hurricanes coming through and having to cancel our vacation....

We just came back from our 1st trip to Aruba, and love it!!! The winds are no problem---except---be

careful wearing a dress up by the lighthouse! We took the KK bus (bar bus) and it made a stop @ the light house. A few young ladies were "fighting" with their dress's to keep them down. I'm SURE the guy's like the wind at this point!!

Other than that spot, I didn't see any problem with the wind. I actually wore a dress to dinner one night @ Texa's Day Brazil, and had no problem.

So consider if you are up by the lighthouse, watch what you wear. ;-)!!!

We're going back for the 3rd time in October....first time was in April...2nd time in August....and if you are going in July, you will welcome the tradewinds....some people post that the sand blasts them....have never had this happen.

If you can get a direct flight, you are lucky.....first two were direct.....now we have a stop over in Atlanta.....so......is it October yet?

I love Aruba.....rent a car and see the island, at least for a couple of days.

Thanks for the advice! Another thing, do i need a car to get around or is it better just to use taxi's? I want to stay at the Bucuti, so I realize it is not near a lot of the other hotels.

You have some things to walk to by Bucuti. Alhambra casino, there are a few good restaurants that are walkable also. At Alhambra there is a small "shopping Bazar" that is open until like 10PM.

Taxi's are plentiful and the bus is pretty much in front of Bucuti. It is very cheap safe and convenient. Renting a car is totally by preference.

We never rented until we realized we were taking 2 round trip taxis a day - very pricey. We stay on Eagle and hang out on Palm and we love going downtown. I HATE the bus no matter where I am so I've only done the bus a couple of times in Aruba and it was just ONE way. Unfortunately, I am just one of the people that have no patience...even when on vacation :( So I look for all kinds of ways not to test "it". Car rental is the best thing for US.

We rented a car, and glad we did. Now we did stay @

La Cababna. We like driving around and exploring. One thing I would recommend you to do is take the ABC Jeep tour (all day was the best). You will go places and see things that you never could really do on your own. You will be off roading (must have a good back), but this was the best tour. You will get to see around 10 places, including the Natural Pool. The guide is very informative. Now just a FYI

the guide drives one jeep w/people in it. The rest of the jeeps one of the customers can drive.

It is sooooo much fun, but warning you will get dirty. So wear a swimsuit, old t-shirt, and older shorts. Also I would recommend wearing water shoes, or old tennis shoes (walking down to Natural Pool you will need them). We will do the jeep tour again when we go back.

Again, we like having our own car, but we were in the low rise's. Like to come and go when we wanted to. HAVE FUN
