Sunfriend- Aruba has plent of things to do but I don't know if its exactly what you are looking for. I would not put Aruba and Cancun in the same sentence.
Aruba has beaches, nice restaurants, casinos, bars, plenty of beach activities with snorkling, sunset sail etc... among other things but its not what I think you are looking for if Cancun is an ideal destination.
Best wishes on your next trip wherever you land.
I agree with JayD. There is nightlife in Aruba, but I wouldn't say it's a non-stop party. Then again, I'm not exactly a spring chicken, so someone younger and more energetic may want to chime in.
If you do decide on Aruba, there are a few night spots I can recommend; Soprano's (sing-along type bar), Mambo Jambo and Mr. Jazz (for live music and dancing).
There is also the Kukoo-Kunuku party bus, which folks seem to enjoy. The bus travels to the California Lighthouse for a champage toast, stops for dinner, then several bar stops.
Moomba Beach is also a popular spot for music, drinks and dancing (between the Surf Club and Holiday Inn).
I'm sure there are others; just out of the party loop.
Aruba does have some nightlife but it is definitely not comparable to Cabo San Lucas, Cancun, or Key West's nightlife. There is usually A (okay, maybe 2)hot spot on a given night but if you're not at the right place, at the right time, then it will seem very subdued or "dead" compared to the other destinations you mentioned.
We're not necessarily looking for something as crazy as Cancun..maybe more like Cabo. Cabo has like 3 places that are happenin' all the time. We aren't into excursions..more just relaxing on the beach, by the pool and my boyfriend is a big gambler. We do like to party and don't want to go somewhere where you just go to bed after dinner. Does that make sense? We're looking for a little action on top of relaxtion, but nothing crazy.
If you like to gamble there is always some action going on. There are probably not 2 or 3 spots that you can count on for action. We went to Sopranos and really enjoyed ourself on our last trip but it was pretty much dead. Four of 5 couples drinking....we enjoyed it.
You want to make sure you stay on Palm beach if you do travel to Aruba. Its has a little more of what you may be looking for.
How far are places, such as Sopranos and Mr Jazz, away from the Occidental ?
We fly out tommorow and were just wondering, dont wanna get there without at least an idea of distance.. least then we can plan on how to get to and from these places etc
Thanx in advance.
From the Occidental you can walk to Mr. Jazz and Soprano's.
Other bars that are an easy walk in the high rise hotel area:
Buster's Garage (sports bar)
Hard Rock Cafe
Rembrandt's (Dutch pub - live music on some nights)
Confessions Night Club
Bugaloe Pier Bar (live music around 5pm on Fri, Sun, and Tues)
Moomba's Beach Bar (live music on Sundays)
thanx Amy !!
there arent mega size clubs like in cancun
but must of the time I was in aruba I found a party you might want to consider barbados
again the bars arent that big and there are dead night anywhere you go
