Most people on the island will understand English, Papiamento, Dutch or Spanish. I usually just write 'Masha Danki' (thank you in papiamento) on the housekeeper's gift envelope.

You've been to Aruba 4 times? You have to be kidding. Why don't you write it in Canadian.

Sorry if it sounded like a stupid question - as obviously some of you think that.

I know they speak and understand english (Canadian as you said hemlock)) ,but I found that many housekeepers don't.

I have also found that many housekeepers don't understand English. We usually just track our housekeeper down and give her an envelope and say Danki personally. By the way, it wasn't a stupid question at all, in my opinion.

We just always leave a daily tip on the pillows of the bed every day. Sometimes they'll also wash a few dishes (glassware) so we leave extra by the sink, too, if they start washing our dishes every day. Even without an envelope, they always know the money is for them.

I like to leave a tip every day. We usually have the same maid most days but I never know which days she has off.
