Aruba or St. Thomas in December?

We're a couple looking for a romantic and relaxing vacation for 4 nights in mid December. Beautiful, varied views (love mountains) nice walks, etc. Aruba or St. Thomas?

Thanks

Aruba's not much on views (unless you like wave-battered rocky shorelines and the most incredible sunsets) and it's a big of a slog for four nights. The Hooiberg doesn't make me wax rhapsodic either!

I think I'd opt for St. Thomas and go to Aruba when you have more time.

I would agree with St. Thomas.. They are both great places but for romance and only 4 days, St Thomas to me is more romantic.. Aruba is beutiful in it's own way, lots of sand, cactus, scrub brush, more of a desert. St Thomas is lush and green and more mountainous.. Definetly go to Aruba some time but try to spend a week there..

I've been to St. Thomas for the past 2 years, and we went to Aruba this year. They are both very different. As far as lush green mountains, colorful flowers, white, sandy beaches and crystal clear water....you cannot go wrong with St. Thomas. Aruba is very different. Dry, windy, no real greenery. But the colors of the water are the prettiest I have ever seen. Be mindful, that St. Thomas does have more of a 3rd world country feel to it as you venture around the island than Aruba. I always felt safe in Aruba, But St. Thomas had some sketchy areas. Both places have their pros and cons. One thing that really surprised us about Aruba was how cold the water felt. Of course, we are probably a bit spoiled from the Virgin Islands where the water is calmer and feels like bath water. I think that you can't go wrong with either place. But as a person who has been to both places, I lean more towards the Virgin Islands. If you have any questions, feel free to message me. I'd be happy to advise you!

I know you didn't pose it as an option, but I would propose St. Martin - French side - Orient Beach for a romantic getaway. Aruba is our overall favorite but St. Martin has some green, some hills and more smaller, secluded beaches with some of the best French cuisine at the beach bars. We found it very romantic and less commercial than Aruba. A slower pace. Check it out!

Looking for a relaxing romantic vacatione then go with Aruba. Stay at the Bucuti, you will love it. I've been to St Thomas and although its beautiful Aruba is nicer and probably a bit safer.

Our 2 favorite caribbean destinations are St John/St Thomas and Aruba. Have been to St John/St Thomas the past 4 falls, and going again this December, and just returned from Aruba 2 weeks ago (5th trip in 7 years). They could be 2 more completely different islands/vacations, but we love them for different reasons.

We love the USVI's (especially St John) because of the beauty, green tropical landscapes, blue waters, amazing snorkeling, incredible beaches, good restaurants, and always the best views of different islands/cays in every direction. This fall is my wife and my 5th trip in 5 years (and we just go alone the 2 of us).

We love Aruba for an amazing family vacation, with something for everyone. We go as a large group (usually 11-15 in total, including my parents, my 2 kids (early 20's), and my brother and his family. Beautiful resorts on the beach (we prefer Hyatt), good restaurants, very friendly people, very safe, casinos (my Mom only goes to gamble believe it or not), beautiful blue water, almost always good weather (outside the hurricane belt) etc. Realize this is an arrid desert island, so very little green, and no island views in the distance.

If you only have 4 days, I would suggest you consider staying for 4 days on St John at Gallows Point. Beautiful 1 bedroom condo's on the water (no beach though) with easy walking distance to all that Cruz Bay has to offer (restaurants, bars, shopping, etc.), incredible views of St Thomas in the distance, etc. We are making our 3rd trip to Gallows Point (1st week of Dec.) in 3 years and just love it. Consider an upper unit, ocean front (vs harbor view or lower). Still shoulder season rates until Dec. 22nd.
