Couple's first trip

My husband and I are thinking of Aruba, just the two of us. We always do all inclusive in Mexico but since we don't have the kiddos we are not wanting to go AI. I'm thinking I like the Radisson or Marriott. We are looking at mid-May, hoping there won't be a lot of kids around this time of year?? Is it pretty slow this time of year?

Car rental seems pretty reasonable, versus paying a taxi to take from and back to the airport, plus we will do some exploring while we are there. Is the economy size car fine to get around?

Also we like the nightlife, along with a few cocktails, are there bars within walking distance of both resorts?

Thanks for any feedback.

We enjoyed our eigh-night stay at the Radisson last July very much. It was our first time on Palm Beach after four visits to Eagle and in our opinion, the location cannot be beat. Lots of stuff within walking distance. We've had a Yaris and a Corolla (both from Tropic) which suited our needs very well.

I hope you like Aruba, and the Radisson as much as we do!

My preference is the Radisson. Central location on Palm Beach. Nice beach. Less crowded. The Bugaloe is located on a pier behind the Radisson walking toward the Riu. There is music most nights. A compact car is fine. We rent at the airport from Econo. It is worth the 12% airport tax for the convenience. Plus, there is no driver to meet or to tip, so the tax is about the same as a normal driver tip, Fill out the paperwork on line and save time.

I prefer the radisson as well. The location is perfect with many places to eat and drink close by.

Another Radisson vote - good location in the middle of Palm Beach so easy to walk to almost everything in the area (bars, restaurants, casinos.)

Mid-May will be nice - it's considered the low season and the families/kids won't be there yet for summer vacations.

Good idea to rent a car, my opinion. We rent a compact or smaller. It is perfect to travel the island.

some like the Mariott, others like the Radison. Pick one, which is better for you. we have stayed at the Mariott Hotel. Very nice for us, it has been re done, looks good.

Have fun

Safe travels

My niece has stayed at the Radisson a few times and loved it and she is very picky. Said that stretch of beach was very nice.

I am also considering going at the same time (same reasons)...but do not want to rent a car. It is necessary? We are two adults looking to lay on the beach during the day and then head out at night. Really just want to relax and not looking to explore. How far is the airport from the Radisson?

If you're staying at the Radisson (or anywhere in the Palm Beach area) there is no need to rent a car if you don't want to. There is plenty to walk to in that area as far as nightlife, restaurants, shops, etc. If you want to go downtown for the day just take a taxi or the bus.

Airport is about 20 minutes away - will cost $25 one way via taxi from the airport to Palm Beach.

We're in the early stages of planning our July vacation--a toss-up between the Radisson or AMBR. If we stay at the Rad, we won't bother with a car. If we decide on Amsterdam Manor, we'll get one for five days. I actually really enjoy the bus and I love to walk.

I have not stayed at the Radisson, but we do enjoy the Tradewinds level at the Marriott. Children under 18 are not allowed on that floor, so even though there may be some kids running around the resort, they will not be doing it in the hallway outside of your room. As the Tradewinds level has their own section of the beach, sitting on the sand will also have you away from the kids.

In addition, the Marriott has one pool that is "adults only" - it is nice to be able to swim or lounge in the pool without a bunch of kids playing and splashing.

These few amenities are great for us so that we can relax a little more staying in sections of the property that are "adults only".
