Well I want to thank all those that wrote me about renting a car in Aruba. We now have been there and rented a jeep for the day. It was a decent experience, so for those of you that are still on the fence, go for it. We had the freedom to go to whatever beach we wanted, get from there to the rest room, see points of interest, and go to a restaurant in the evening. We rented from Speed car rental right at the dock(pre-arranged) a "new" Jeep. It wasn't really new, and was pretty beat up, the rear window didn't close, and the rear seat dusty. It ran well and traffic wasn't too bad except....in town. There were two mega ships in town so transit through town was tedious at best. You can skirt town but with no street signs it is a guessing game we ultimately figured out. Gas is expensive. Have a great time! In retrospect I am not sure we could have done all we did without a car, yet we still didn't feel rushed. We started north to Boca Catalina and snorkelled till about noon, even took a nap on the beach, then up to the Light House, and then scooted south through town to try and get to Baby Beach but the traffic south of town was bumper to bumper so we bailed, had lunch at a small seafood reataurant alongside the road and travelled back north to Eagle Beach for a swim about 4 pm(very nice sand!!!!) and dinner at Passions. We returned to the ship about 8:30 p.m.
