Should I go to Aruba?

Trying to decide between Aruba and St. Kitts (using marriott points). Just came back from Curacao and loved it but I've heard a lot of people say that people who like Curacao, don't like Aruba and vice versa. I like to relax but I also want there to be a nice city area with restaurants and shopping. I don't want to go somewhere where you stay at the resort the whole time. I like to explore the area. Seems like a lot of people on here love Aruba and know it well so do you think it would be a good vacation spot for me?

Well, as you are paying a visit to the Aruba forum, we may be a bit biased - LOL! Based on your criteria, I think Aruba will fit the bill. The island is very safe to explore....no need to confine yourself to a resort, unless you so choose. Dining options are plentiful, at all price points.

Having visited Curacao, I am happy to share that I like both islands! Aruba is more commercial, but if you are willing to stray from the hotel areas, there are beautiful, rugged areas of the island to explore and local cuisine to be had. Enjoy!

I have been to St. kitts once and Aruba soon to be 9 trips. I enjoyed st. Kitts but I would not return for a couple of reasons, the most important is due to their high murder rates....google it.

Arubamasc - thanks for your response! I was already leaning towards Aruba so that's why I posted in this forum - figured you all would talk me into it!

Jay...thanks for the info! That's definitely a deterrent. I would have never thought that about St Kitts since it seems like such a quiet island!

Have either of you been to the Marriott Beach Resort & Stellaris Casino or the Marriott Renaissance? As I mentioned before, we will be using Marriott points so we are trying to decide between the two. Thanks again!

We were in Aruba in 2008. Since then we have gone to St Thomas, St Maartin St John, Cayman and are now planning a trip back to Aruba. Out of all of the islands we have gone to it is still one of my favorite.

Out of the two hotels you mentioned, I would choose Marriott Stellaris. It is on the far end of Palm beach. Make sure you check out any construction that may be going on there. They are building a Ritz hotel somewhere on palm beach.

My husband and I were at the Stellaris last month. We really liked it nice hotel. If you can upgrade to the Tradewinds floor, that's great. We did and thought it was worth the extra money. The beach and ocean is not that nice in front of the Marriotts, but if you walk away from the pier towards the Radisson, it's much nicer.

I have stayed at the resort and enjoyed the property and beach. If you do decide to book your reservation at the resort, keep in mind there is construction taking place next door, at the future site of the Ritz Carlton. The Palm Beach area is home to the high rise hotels and with that, you will find a greater volume of travelers. The Ren is located downtown and is not located on the beach. They do offer daily shuttle service to their private island and there are beach clubs (not affiliated with Marriott) close by.

Hii,

Depending on when your going, the Rtiz is opening in November and you can use your points there. Hopefully, that is what i plan doing next winter.

We won't be going until next Feb/March so hopefully the construction won't impact us if it's going to be completed in November. Staying at the Ritz would be nice! Will have to see how many points that will be! Everyone was so helpful! Thank you! More opinions and comments are welcome! :-)

If going in February, it is High season, do you have enough points? Or do they black out that time because the hotel is filled. Check it out

I would use my points for Hawaii, sorry Aruba. Beautiful Marriott Timeshares.

I do know it is much farther away.

Aruba is a safe place and you can leave the resort. If you do come, you will be happy with you did.
