Landed!!!!!!!! EDS! :)
Landed!!!!!!!! EDS! :)
Yay! That's always good.
Enjoy your stay. I just priced going for New Years, ouch....
Great flight from Newark with the extra leg room and seated right at the exit door which got me off the plane first. Made a b line for customs and was through in minutes. Grabbed the car and i was off! Whet down to Moomba last night to see the Untouchables play and have my first Balashi Chill. Saw some friends from home by coincidence and that made it even more fun. DJ started around nine and he was kind of lame but everyone was dancing and having a good time. Talked to endless people from Jersey and felt a bit like i was on the boardwalk at Jenks in Point Pleasant. Took some pics with even more people from Jersey who liked my hair? I just decided to go with that one! Turns out her mom was one of my clients, Crazy! Hitting the gym now and then rehearsing with a great guitarist who's band i am playing with tonight at the Hardrock. Hey if your on the Island stop by Hardrock tonight after 9 and say hi! Im the guy with the hair? lol Now, COFFEE! EDS!
Are you playing with Ernesto? I've enjoyed his guitar playing for years. I know he also plays at the Hard Rock, too, now but not sure that's my type of music. I enjoy his Spanish guitar music.
Have fun!Edited: 13 May 2013, 15:16
Yes Amy, With his band. I love his acoustic playing as well. It always sets the perfect atmosphere and vibe. The guy is so good, He was in a big band from Brazil back in the 80s and 90s. When he plays with the full band he gets to stretch it out and show is classic rocks roots! We are actually doing a few song tonight that will be acoustic vocals when his band takes a break. I prefer to sing that way at this point. I had years of blowing my voice out trying to compete with drummers! I have studied voice and been a vocalist most of my life, still play back home a few times a month. I also sit in with Acoustic Soul but i missed their show at Chaos by one day. I almost had my band booked here for a 2 week stint at Rembrandt 2 years ago but it fell thought. Im really looking forward to this one though. I should have thought about my voice a little more last night, yelling over the music and drinking for 5 hours is not so good on the cords! We are going to rehearse for a few then beach, dinner at Barefoot then over to Hardrock! This is my first trip here solo after all these years. It felt a little weird at first but now it just feels like home. For now on i have to pay more attention when i am driving around instead of letting my wife say ''right, left, right, left!'' I felt lost yesterday!Edited: 13 May 2013, 16:23
Wow, you're multitalented - wish we were there; sounds like a great time. Enjoy and take care.
So i went to Barefoot for dinner last night with some friends from back home who happened to be on the Island. They booked a table at 7 ''much earlier then i usually have dinner'' so i saw my first sunset from there. They were under the impression that it would be touristy and not that good because they thought it was connected to the Nikky Beach chain. I told them it was not and the meal will be great. It was, all 4 of my group loved their meals stating it was the one of the best meal of their trip along with Yemanja the night before. It was very quiet at Barefoot and the whole Island is really dead to a certain extent. This is my first trip here during May and i am really loving it. Bartender friends said last week was a good week but this week has really dropped off. I went over to Hardrock after dinner to watch the band and sang a few songs with them to close their set. We did some Kiss, Led Zep and Judas Priest. Please go to the Hardrock and support the live bands. The Hardrock is finally promoting live music and they need to see it supported to justify the meager cost they shell out for the bands, i know it seems crazy that a Hardrock would not consider live bands a priority but this one is a little lost when it comes to management. My metal roots intact i headed over to Gusto to embrace a completely different vibe. Again it was not crowded which is not a surprise for a Monday night but even a Monday night in high season and the place is packed. DJ Ed was great especially after the guy DJing at Moomba Sunday night. They closed what seemed a little early so i went over to The Mill with a few of the bartenders and some new Dutch friends i had met at Gusto. The Mill only had about 25 people hanging at the bar but it was a great group and i was able to talk a little business with someone from my field. Well today was kind of a late start. I got some coffee and made it to the beach around 3. It was a beautiful day and now i am sitting on the balcony watching the sun go down. I am laying low tonight for sure, eating in and then walking down to Moomba for a bit and playing a little at Stellaris casino. I get my bike tomorrow but not sure if i am just gonna ride around Palm, Eagle and downtown or head back into the park. Have a few invites to do some cool things during the day this week but i will wait to see how that pans out. All the best! EDS!
It's been a beautiful week here so far. Very quiet which makes sense for this season. I walked from Stellaris down to The Westin today and the only resort that had more then a handful of people was RIU, It was happy hour and with the all inclusive I'm sure they stick around the property. Playa Linda had some good Karaoke at their bar when i walked by, i stayed for a few songs, people were having a great time. Weather has been perfect. So far i have checked out the new bar in town ''Local Store'' it's a great spot very close to where people come off the cruise ships, it's open air and on the second floor. It was latin night with a DJ but they do live bands as well. I went to Rogers Beach on Tuesday, we had a Balshi Chill on Baby Beach at one of the trailer food and drink places. Friends said always go to the blue one because it's way cheaper. 2 Balashi, 1 ice tea and 2 hotdogs for $11 is pretty good! We then went over to Zeerover for a late lunch/early dinner. Wednesday stayed at the pool and went to Yemanga for dinner, i sat at the bar and the food was great as usual. I went over to Gusto which was not that packed and that was good. The place is small and on the weekends you can't move after 1pm. They close at 1 during the week so we went over to The Mill again, lots more people this time. I have to add this considering the recent theft Issue over at Divi. This local guy that i see hanging around Moomba on Sundays walks over to the bar where we are sitting, He points down under the stool where my friend is sitting and say hey you dropped this. Her money had fallen in a wad to the floor under her stool, He picked it up and handed it to her. I said wow dude that was really cool of you. He said that money would not change my life but it could have really effected her vacation. Thats the Aruba i love. Thursday morning was something i never saw, I went to Nikki Beach and crashed with a book on one of their pool beds from about 2PM until 5PM, drinking club soda! I wanted to meet friends for happy hour at Sopranos but i took the night off and stayed in, it was necessary! I am still trying to convince myself that i am going to pick up my Mountain Bike, :) I still have a few more days to lie to myself about that one! Hope everyone is well, EDS.
EDS- I love following you around Aruba when you post these day by day updates. Makes me want to plan another trip!
Last night had a great dinner Gostoso, Fish in a Mango sauce and the sushi app was spot on as usual. Went back to Local Store because a really good Reggae band ''Honey Pot'' were playing. I can't say enough about what a cool bar this new place is. I s was really packed but still you could move if you just hung back from the band and bar. A DJ Nutzbeats was going on after the band but i left to meet a friend and Gusto. Without sounding redundant, It was a blast and then we went to The Mill. Today went over to ''Sand Beach Lounge'' at Brickell Bay Beach club for a beach tennis tournament. The have sand courts set up and the Bar/Lounge is really nice with a great staff. It would be a nice place to stop for a drink after dinner. On weekend nights it's more of a club as the night go's on. On Sundays you can hang at the pool all day for free and they have bottle service, food and House Music. It's a lot like the Nikki Beach concept just not on the beach. Im going to hang there when i come back. Tonight i am eating light and then heading over to Passions for a drink and to watch a friend play guitar, Then over to 080 cafe. There is a party in town tonight at ''House of Music'' which is a local club but i can't do another late night when I'm checking out tomorrow. It's been a great week here and coming solo was cool with lots to do. I really enjoyed my first May trip here and think i will try to make it happen again next year. I will be back on July 4th which is my quickest turn around trip. Hope you get here soon! EDS
PS, Never pick up the mountain Bike, 2 trips in a row. That ends in July!
