Finally decided on Marriott Ocean Club for Feb. school break

We had been torn between Radisson and Marriott timeshare for President's week. We have 2 kids (12 and 9). When MCM finally game me the Radisson rates, I realized that Radisson 2 connecting garden view rooms (we don't want to stay in one room) would be over $2000 more than renting a 2 bedroom ocean view unit at Marriott Ocean or Surf Club on VRBO. We chose Ocean Club over Surf Club for lower density since I know it will be a busy time. Prefer a less crowded atmosphere. We have previously stayed at Hyatt in 99 and Radisson in 01 so now we can add another property to our list. It seemed to be the best choice for our family.

If anyone has tips on Marriott Ocean Club, would love to hear them. I have read conflicting things on in room WIFI. Can anyone confirm? Also, do I need basket or cone filters for coffee maker?

Filters come with the comp coffee in the room. Wifi is fast and works great.

I have to say that with my 2 adult children I would opt for a 2 bedroom at the Marriott instead of 2 separate rooms at the Radisson, but that's just me. I really enjoy having the extra space - whether we are in our room a lot or not.

Enjoy!

You will have a great time. We own at the Marriott and go with our teenager each February. There will be plenty of kids there for your children to hang out with. I am sure you have already begun researching restaurants but keep in mind there are terrific grills at the Marriott so you can enjoy a barbeque by the pool one night.

Timeshare is great. Having the kitchen is wonderful. Stock the frig with drinks and stuff.. I love to wake up smelling the coffee. I take a cup down early to the pool.

We travel in February. It is a busy time. Just be prepared. Lots of families. Why not, it is so beautiful in Aruba.

Good choice you will like it there.

Safe travels

As much as I love the radisson I would have also looked at the timeshare option for the added room.

Thanks all. We do generally prefer timeshare or condo style accommodations when traveling as a family. Appreciate all the input and useful forum info!

Can anyone tell me how many coffee flilters come in a 2 bedroom and whether they are basket or cone type? Any great tips on getting a palapa during such a busy week? Thanks!

To get a palapa, you have several choices including renting one for a period of time during your stay or getting into the infamous "hut line" early in the morning and getting one for free for the day. The booth for the palapas opens at approximately 7:00 AM. There are some rabid hut-liners who show up as early as 3:00 AM to be sure to get their special hut - yes, that is 3:00 AM (I know, I have been part of that group and there have been times where people have shown up before 3:00 AM and have even been known to sleep over near the booth after a hard night at the casino or because of insomnia)! If 3:00 AM is too early for you, then if you are down there by about 6:00 AM you still should be able to get a reasonable hut.

I was at the Ocean Club in October. The filters were the basket kind. I don't remember how many. We brought our own. If a front row palapa is critical I would spend the $ and rent one, I usually rent one for a couple of days to avoid the palapa line. Getting a good chair at the pool can also prove difficult, my husband and I trade off going to the pool area in the morning to secure a seat in our favorite spot. The quiet pool at the Ocean club was great. Only a few chairs but very relaxing.

Thank you. What is the procedure for reserving a palapa in advance and what is the cost? This may be worth it for us during such a busy week.
