Vehicle question

We are a group of 7 coming to Aruba in Dec. We know we would like to rent a vehicle to get around, etc., but there are only a few vans available and they are quite pricey. We understand the island is quite small, we were thinking of renting a car instead and doing multiple trips. There are definitely times that the whole group would not be wanting to do the same thing, therefore we only expect it to be multiple trips for the airport and maybe for a beach day (if we're wanting to go to an away beach). We're staying in the Palm Beach area so there is a lot within walking distance we understand. Also, we were concerned about the size of the van. In other Caribbean islands larger vehicles have a difficult time getting around and getting parking spots.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be helpful.

Two cars are cheaper and easier, if you have two people comfortable driving in places they've never been. It's worked well for us in the past. I hate waiting for a large group to get ready, so this way the first half can leave when they're ready, the others to show up when they're ready. As you stated, not everyone wants to do the same thing at the same time. It's nice when everyone does not have to dragged kicking and screaming through downtown for a few to go shopping (slight exaggeration).

Parking isn't too bad at most places for larger vehicles and the streets are equal to most U.S. roads in size.

When have been a group of 7 we have rented an SUV which is capable of holding 7 people.

Looking real quick on only one of the car rental websites, renting say a 7 passenger Suziki suv you would save about $40 USD over renting 2 separate cars. You would save enough money for 3/4 of a tank of gas and have the convenience of your group being able to travel together.

We were able to book a mini van for our upcoming trip through Payless Car Rental for a good price. Check out their website. http://www.paylesscar.com/specials/ If you click on specials it takes you to link where you can apply a 15% promo code.

I like the idea of two cars. Check the link above for rates. There is a 12% airport tax if you decide to take the car at their airport location. They still are very competitively priced, even with the tax. Great way to return car. Just park it. Have it inspected and cross the street into the airport. Don't have to meet anyone and don't have to tip anyone. JMO.
