Renaissance in May 2014 -- Area questions

We are staying at the Renaissance Resort, Marina hotel for 4 nights with no rental car; looking for ideas on food, drink, and/or music within walking distance. Any places that do happy hour specials? We are looking for more of a beach atmosphere rather than casino feel.

Looking for meat and shellfish type meals and/or snacks; not fish (wife allergy). Specialty drinks are a plus. Casual places or bars are fine, looking for lunches, quick snacks/drinks, and dinners.

Any places in the area with music?

I assume this area is pretty safe for walking around?

So far we were looking at the west deck for lunch, Yemanja for dinner and we were going to take a taxi to Barefoot for dinner; but nothing is set in stone.

Thanks for the help!

For casual lunch/drinks try Iguana Joe's and Casa Tua. Both close by. I also like Reflextions which is right next to Barefoot. Good lunch or appetizers. Friendly staff. Beach atmosphere. Maybe consider L.G. Smith's Steakhouse or Cuba's Cookin'. Windows On Aruba for a more upscale dining experience. A short cab ride.

The area is very safe. You are close to a bus terminal. Take a bus to the High Rise area for a change. Get off at the Hyatt and look around. If you do, look for the Radisson and RIU Hotels that are close by. Bugaloe Beach Bar is a great place for music, casual food and drinks. Located on a dock behind the RIU. Check the web page for music schedule. You can take a cab for a reasonable amount instead of a bus if you wish.

Walkable from your hotel.....

For music at night you can go to CILO (different type of music each night), The Local Store (DJ-type music), or Cafe Chaos (we usually like their acoustic nights on Thursdays.)

Another casual place that we like for drinks is Cafe The Plaza (great little local Dutch pub.)

CILO and Cafe The Plaza also have pretty good casual food, too.

What type of music?

Also ask for a room on the 5th floor overlooking the pool if you can get it.

Local Store has live bands earlier and DJs later. https://www.facebook.com/LocalStoreAruba, They book the best local bands on the island.

Also Chupitoz Shot bar is right down the street from Local Store. It's small with DJs playing House Music. They make some amazing and creative shots! Great after hours place as well. https:/…503341873082788

We like Cilo for breakfast lunch or dinner. It has a really nice atmosphere anytime of day or night. We were never there for live music but I'm going to have to check them out for that based on Amy's post.

The Renn a Marina tower boasts 2 excellent restaurants; Aquarius and LGSmith steakhouse.

Also the Blue bar there is a great hangout bar

Yemanja for dinner is a must. It was our favorite the entire week we were there. It is right behind the Marina Hotel. We stated at the Marina Hotel and walked to the West Deck for apps and the walked to Barefoot for dinner, took a cab back. Enjoyable walk in beautiful weather. Cubas Cookin is across the street and has great music. Most places have a happy hour.

No one mentioned these locations so I will...

Din at Pinchos, you will see it on left on way to private island, it's a dock, while in boat. Also Barefoot on the beach. A new player in the bar/ din scene has just emerged West Deck steps from Renn Suites. Rave reviews. All of the above are spots for sunsets.

Clio has cheap drinks and they are great. Pass on The Cafe Plazza, it's fair at best. At Renn Marketplace is Hung Paradise, good, fast and cheap. One of the best on island.

We own at Suites and have visited 19 times so if you have any ? Fire away....

Thanks for all of the suggestions so far. We are doing Barefoot for Dinner on Mothers Days and I think we'll stop by Pinchos for a drink and app beforehand since we have a late dinner reservation. West Deck for lunch one day, and Yemanja for another dinner. Likely LGSmith steakhouse too. I should have booked a week for all the places I'd like to try!

So Barefoot isn't too far of a walk from the hotel?

I also have the Spa Cove reserved for the sunrise massage package, has anyone done that? Worth the $440 for 2 1/2 house in the Cove and a massage? Sounds like it'll be great but haven't found much for reviews.
