Thanks to everone who made this trip enjoyable. Arrived around 4:30 PM after a very nice direct flight from Philly on US Air Got to Royal Auto and recieved an old but adequate Ford Explorer that was fine for a week with 4 old(68 to74) people and luggage with no crowding. Not the Ford Escort as ordered but a reasonable sub.
Aruba has NOT changed that much in the past 10 years since our last visit---more people, cars, and malls. Remains a wonderful island with great beaches and restaurants, etc.
Off to the Mill Resort--- had a 2-bedroom with kitchen/living room timshare exchange(room117,118,119) that was and is terrible. Would disagree with Toshposh review of 2/14/14 who felt this was a 3-star place. For us a 2-star place made such by the employees. The unit had NO comfortable furniture except for a pull out sofa bed delivered on Thursday afternoon---ahhhh comfort. The rest was ratan chairs with a thin seat pad that after sitting for 1 hour created nice ridges and pain. The rest was plastic patio chairs that are NOT comfortable.
The bed was a 4 to 5 inch thick lumpy matress on a piece of plywood----NOT a bed but a torture device! Unable to sleep thru the night on any nigh tunti arrival at home on 2/22/2014
The kitchen had adequate appliences but only ONE outlet. Thus it was make coffee, switch appliences to make toast,.then make more coffee for a second cup, then change to the blender for drinks, etc, etc, a PITA( pain in the a**)
The Mill Resort restaurant( Garden Cafe) served great good food but added the 15% service charge that it kept as a breakage fee thus adding another 15 to20% to the bill. What a wonderful way to treat your employees who make your resort a nicer place!!!!!
Visited several restaurants wihle on the island. The sunset dinner at Miranda was great but pumpkin soup NOT as good as Garden Cafe---wife felt secondary to vegatable stock as opposed to chicken stock. Otherwise great food, drinks, and what a view at sunset.
Gasporito was a good 10 years later with an excellent menue---wonderful goat, etc.The food, service, etc at the Amuse Bistro was excellent and deserves 4 to 5 stars.Close to Grande Cas on St.Martin! Dinner at Yamanji in downtown Was easy to find with great parking and a superb chef and facilities that made dining very memoriable
The evening at 2 Fools and a Bull was worth every penny($220)plus gratuity. MUST reserve at least 5-6 month in advance to get place and such a wonderful chef and host that it is worth the effort. MUST call 24 hour before the meal to reconfirm. What an excellent dining experience and meal that I do NOT understand the poor or terrible ratings but to each his own!
The island has all the amenities with good shooping at the SuperFood. The collapse of the Natural Bridge is impressive and a site not to miss if you were at the old bridge before.
Checkout by 12 noon got us to the airport in plenty of time for our return flight at 4:30 PM and home for a GOOD night sleep.
