First Time: Better to rent car at airport or not?

We are first timers. Which is less of a hassle: rent a car at the airport or at an off-site location? Which has the better prices?

Any particular recommendations? Thank you so much!

If you are renting for the duration of your trip, better to just rent at the airport. Usually weekly rentals are less than renting per day.

We always rent before we go. This way the car is waiting when you get there. .

We always rent from Tropic. Hans or one of his staff always meets us at the airport with a sign with our name on it and takes us right to the car. Easy, breezy. You have to book early with Tropic, they fill up fast.

This is our fifth year going, we will be there in less than 2 months. We always make rental reservations before we go and pick up at airport for duration of our trip. The first time we didn't know any better and we spent lots of money on taxi rides, and we rented a car for 2 days to drive around the island, which cost almost as much as the weekly rental.

I prefer to rent from a company that has an office at the airport. It is especially convenient when returning a car. Just park. Have the car inspected. Walk across the street into the airport. No worries about being late to meet someone or being ridiculously early to avoid that scenario. A lot has to do with confidence in the rental company. There are a few highly regarded options that do not have an airport office. Many choose to rent from those companies and feel comfortable with the relationships forged over the years. For those who have never rented before or forged an ongoing relationship, it makes more sense to rent from a company with an airport office. I rent from Econo. Good rates. No problems. JMO.

I agree with above statement,

Just rent from the Airport,ECONO very good service never a problem 20+years.

Yes Hans is very good, great service meet you at airport...bla,bla,bla...

But just as easy to walk across pick up your car and go...

If you are there just for a week or so ,the extra charge was not much at all less then a taxi fare.

Try econo... http://www.econoaruba.com/cars-and-rates/

We also like to rent at the airport. Easy for us. We now use Tropic, it was easy.

Had used Econo for many years

Thought there service and type of cars had changed with quality of service

We like having a car.be safe everyone

The compact is $165.00(Econo) for a week. Does anyone know what the total cost (ball park figure) would be with taxes?

Do you have to take out additional insurance?

We have never rented a car in 9 trips to Aruba. This time, we are staying in the low rise area. I think a car might be a good idea.

The total cost will be $187+. Check with your CC company regarding the insurance. Most likely, you will not need it.

Contact Wheels2Go. They have excellent prices, excellent cars, they will pick you up at airport and meet you at airport when you leave. Fantastic owners too. We have used several different rental companies, Wheels2Go is the best!
