Sea Urchin

Just got back from 10 days in Aruba.

Please be aware that there were Sea Urchins in the ocean in front of the Ocean Club last Saturday, that stung around 5 people including my wife. They had a diver there on Sunday looking for them and supposedly he found them.

Just be careful.

I heard a sea urchin say, "What are all these people doing in my room?"

Was/is your wife ok? Where did she get stung?

Did it happen in shallow water? This resort is on eagle beach right?

It's unusual that Sea Urchins would be at Palm Beach or Eagle Beach. They are usually attached to rock and reef formations. They don't sting. If you step on them the spines can break off and puncture skin. They are more like a thorn. They hurt like hell though. Spikes need to be removed. I have heard that urine can cut down on the burning sensation. Never have tried it.

The uric acid treatment works on jellyfish stings...not sure if it relates to sea urchins ...

She was stung on the top and the side of her foot, she had 4 barbs/stingers in her foot. 2 of the 4 are gone now, and she is in no pain anymore. Another women had 11 on the bottom of her foot and they took her to the hospital where they put vinegar on the areas to ease the pain.

Ocean Club is on Palm Beach, they said it was very rare for this to happen there.
