Stayed in Sheraton Suites night before. Used their park & fly program.
Took shuttle to airport to catch 9:56 AM non stop flight via US Air.
Arrived in Aruba about 1/2 hour early. Quick reminder that we were in
Aruba. No place for plane to park since we were early. After about
1/2 hour wait, we were able to arrive at outr gate, so we were actually
Baggage arrived quickly. We crossed the street to Econo. Agent went
to parking lot to get our car. It took about 15 minutes. She probabaly had to
clean the car and fill up the tank. I have no idea what kind of car it was.
It was a hatchback, white in color and pretty new. One very small ding on
driver's door. Took off for the Radisson. Again, took wrong exit from the
round about. Quickly realized my mistake and doubled back.
Check in went well. Then we were lead to our room. Uh Oh. Baggage
handler hit the down button. Ground floor. No way. We are balcony
people. After a call by the baggage guy, we were moved from the
Laguna but nice view of grounds. Very relieved.
First night, decided to try Ricardo's. Nice setting and friendly staff. Food .
was decent, not excellent. Might return. Probably won't due to the many
dining options available.
Second day we visited the Alto Vista Chapel and Lighthouse. Drove a
short distance along the coast and took pictures and videos. While at the
Lighthouse, I made dinner reservations at LaTrattoria to celebrate wife's
BD that following Thursday. Couldn't get her to drift off so that I could
request a BD cake. She finally was distracted by something and I was able
to order a cake.
I can't remember the exact order of our dining experiences, so I will just
list each with a brief comment. Aside from Ricardo's:
Windows On Aruba - Excellent service. Sonia, the hostess was great as was
Ann, our server. Complimentary glass of champagne and numerous pictures
were taken. Chateubriand was not close to any we had had in the past.
Disappointing. I wondered why it was only $69 for two people. I think we
found out. I would probably return to WOA, but would order something else.
Amore Mia for pizza. Really enjoyed the pizza bolognese with roasted red
peppers and ground beef added to the usual tomato/basil sauce. It is now
our #1 place for pizza in Aruba. Ventanas del Mar. Same experience as in the
past. Excellent food/service/atmosphere. We were the only diners. They
are under new ownership and allegedly in the process of developing a new
marketing strategy. Hope they are successful. I won't return unless they are
able to attract diners. Bugaloe for cheeseburgers. Very good. Enjoyed the
band and the outstanding female singer. Never took note of the name.
LaTrattoria was our best overall dining experience. Wife had gnocci
parmigian and I had the penne putanesca. Both dishes wer very good and
each was more than enough for both of us.
Breakfasts were at Laguna, Ricardo's, Matthews, Dunkin' Donuts and Ike's Bistro.
All were decent and worthwhile. Slight edge to Ike's. No lunches although we
did share a grilled cheese one after noon at Bugaloe.
We aren't big gamblers. I netted about $15 and Dee netted about $100. Her
winning came on the last day at the Alhambra. Put her into a good mood.
Return trip was pretty good. The madhouse airport scene notwithstanding.
Again, we arrived about 1/2 hour early in Philly. Baggage ariived pretty fast.
Took shuttle back to hotel. Hopped into car and drove off. Next day, went to
pick up Holly, our beloved Sheltie and our vacation was officially over.Edited: 22 June 2014, 21:10
