We just returned from a week there. We had a very nice dinner at LG Smith's. Resonable. About $125 per couple ( 3 courses, bottle of wine) Would have rated higher if we didn't experience all of the other fabulous resturants in town ( it is great being in walking distance).

We had breakfast at the Aquaris one day in the Marina Hotel~ it is the standard American buffet that you find at all Marriotts. It was $40 for two people.

In the Marketplace, there are some other places that serve B, L & Dinner. Try the Dutch Pancake House for Breakfast. The other places that always seemed crowded were: Waterfront Crabhouse & Scandels. The fast food places include: Sabbaro's, Dunkin Donuts, Subway, Haagen Dazs & Taco Bell.

Do you have any specific questions or where you looking for more general information?

If you are staying at the Rennaisance, you are making a great choice! We had another wonderful stay there : )

We enjoyed the LG Smiths steakhouse.. It is one of the more pricey restaurants.....

The italtian restaurant down on the marina was not very good for the price.....(poor/slow service - food was okay at best)

the waterfront crabhouse is good.....

Outdoor breakfast at the Ocean suites is very good.....

the Aquarious inside the Marina resort is overpriced and not very good at all..I did not ever try their seafood buffet at night, though........

The Papagaya (bar and grill on Ren. island) is very good and reasonably priced bar and grill American style food.............

The Blue bar also has good bar and grill food....(marina resort)

We Hated the Dutch Pancake house.....they feature greasy crepe style pancakes with many different choices of fillings ranging from salty to sweet all mixed with excessive grease and slow service....beware! look on other people's plates before you order...some love it but we HATED it!!!

We LOVE to walk to Iguana Joe's for great and inexspensive drinks and dishes.. they have some of the greatest fajitas and ribs.....great and VERY HOT hot sauce (which they sell for $5)

We LOVE Rumba for a cheap and great breakfast....they have fabulous service and a wonderful dinner menu (much less than the restaurants at the resort)

We LOVE El Gauchos Argentinian steakhouse (SO WORTH THE $$$) and GREAT service....

In short there are many nearby choices that are better and less exspensive... we do not recommend the all-inclusive plan at the Renaissance...but LOVE the resort

Definitely had a difference of opinion on the Dutch Pancake House. We loved it for breakfast ~ as did many others, as it was always packed.

We also thought that LG's was one of the most reasonable places that we dined at. Certainly spent much more at other places with less than what we had there.

That is the beauty of this board ~ it is always interesting to see the opinions of others : )

BTW ~ I do believe the AI option is $135 pp per day.

Thanks for all the info. We can't wait for our viis to Aruba. We will be using our Mariott points for our stay so it will cost us only for food. Which section the Marina hotel or the ocean suites has more restaurants in it's building?

The reason we ask is when we went to St. Kitts they had their main hotel and then 10 smaller two story buildings that had rooms in them but the location of the restaurants was in the main hotel. Luckely our room was in the main hotel so it was easy access to get to the restaurants PLUS it rained almost every day so it would have stunk to have to treck in the pouring rain from the smaller buildings to the main hotel to get to eat.

The Ocean Suites does not have any resturants inside. Instead, they have the Marketplace adjacent to the hotel ( Waterfront Crab House, Dutch Pancake House, FF Chains, Scandals, Villa, among others).

The Marina hotel has some shopping & resturants on the two bottom floors ~ Aquarius, LG Smith's, Blue Martini Bar, Piazza.

Two great resturants in walking distance are Driftwood & El Gaucho. Marandi is a $6 cab ride & definitely ranked as our favorite of the week. If you go there, try to get a reservation during the sunset. It was wonderful.

Some fun places to catch a drink are Iguana JOe's , Paddock & the Bigar Bar across from El Guacho.

Have a great time!

Also, the Renaissance is set up completely different than St. Kitts....

In addition, it doesn't really rain there.... Have a great time!

Definitely check out Rumba which sits behind the Marina hotel. It's one of our favorites for breakfast, lunch, and dinner - great food and service!
