Renaissance Aruba Resort

Unfortunately Trip Advisor have not allowed my review of this nightmare hotel. So please contact me directly either through the site or by email lionj1@btinternet.com and I will be happy to share our experience, photos and videos of what is by far the worse Marriott/Renaissance we have ever stayed in.

Why have they not allowed your review? What was their reason?

I'm kind of surprised! We stayed there a couple of nights this year, and although it wouldn't be my first choice, that was only because it wasn't right on the beach. The hotel room was clean and was exactly what we expected for the price we paid. The private Beach was very nice and we loved walking all around downtown and seeing the festival parade from up above.

Sorry you didn't have the same experience.

Actually we don't know what lion's experience was as he has not yet shared it with us. Having stayed at this hotel, (the Suites) I believe I would know if what lion is saying is true or false. Starting out with comments like "nightmare hotel" tends to lead me to believe his review is way off base, but we shall see, if and when he posts.

I have stayed at both the Marina Tower and Ocean Suites and booked my daughter twice at the Marina, I always enjoyed my stay. I would like to know why the poster found staying there a nightmare .

I have a friend who stayed there last year. Her only reference as to why it was not a good experience, is that for some reason she didn't do her research and didn't realize it wasn't on the beach. She thought the entire hotel was on an island, not that the beach was a private island. She only blames herself, but it did dampen her spirits quite a bit. That being said, I have never heard of anyone referring to the Renaissance as a nightmare. I've never known TA not to allow an honest and fair review either.....

Marina Tower, to me is very much a big city hotel, great if you are on Manhattan Island but not so great on Aruba. One really should do some research before booking this hotel.

The pool is not large, not small either, but faces the very busy main street traffic as do many of the rooms. Also, there is much traffic passing the pool area to the shops, restaurants & casino.

Staying here for quiet one wold need to reserve a room facing inland.

The Ocean Suites is a different matter, every unit is a suite, the pool and pool area is large. There is a small beach & lagoon. Restaurant at the hotel and on the private island.

Both hotels have access to the private island Via water-taxi.

Being in town has some advantages, one can walk to many restaurants, malls, casinos, marina, movies, parks, etc.

We stayed in the timeshare part a few years ago and thought the units were functional and nice for the week. Spent time at the pool and private island. Once morning, early, I was the only person there with the workers. 2 years ago we did an overnight in the hotel part due to a broken plane. Nice room, small to us after a week n a timeshare. Clean, and newly renovated. Would not want to spend a week there, my opinion but it was clean. Much to be said for being downtown. So I wonder what happened?

We finished up our 2 week stay with our last 2 nights at the Ren after leaving our condo at the Oceania. We just checked out this past Monday afternoon. Nothing about the Ren is a nightmare IMHO. That said, i could never do more then 2 days because i like to be on the beach, or right across the street in the case of the Oceania. The pool at the Ren is really peaceful with adults only. Some light Jazz playing and decent drinks. I will say that the lounge chair cushions we disgustingly dirty. Rooms are decent and the island is nice for a day or two. We use points so i might be a little more easy on the place but we really enjoy it for a short stay. The staff is just so so including the staff on the island. I might be a little jaded because the staff at The Oceania is amazing.

I just returned a few weeks ago. I always stay at the Marina just before my timeshare week. I have been going here since it was the Sonesta. This year, check-in was quick, room was ultra clean. Very quiet ,except a few drunks one night decided to start sceaming in the atrium at 2AM. I find the staff mostly pleasant and quick to remedy any concerns.

Only issue I ever had there was 8 years ago when they had mini-bars in the room. I was charged for some candy that was taken ( i never had a key to the bar) which was resolved quickly, and with a breakfast comp at Aquarius.

Anyone with complaints about this hotel must have unusually high expectations, or just like to complain.
