Questions for our first trip to Aruba

Just booked a Tradewinds Governor Suite at the Marriott Resort & Stellaris Casino for our first trip to Aruba. Two adults traveling at the end of November for 6 days. I'm looking for advice on the following:

-Taxi or De Palm service from airport?

-Can we rent a cabana at the pool or palapa on the beach ahead of time or do we have to wait until we're at the resort? I believe Tradewinds guests have separate beach access but I think the palapas are still first come first serve basis?

-Are there any restaurants not too far from the resort that we should not miss?

-Are there any shops/bars/restaurants within walking distance of the resort?

-How bad are the bugs/no see ums on the beach at night?

Any other general advice would be greatly appreciated!!! Thank you.

DO NOT take De Palm shuttle service. The Marriott Resort is next to the last resort on Palm Beach (the Ritz is last). It will take forever to get there with the bus stopping at all the other resorts on the way. Taxi to the Marriott is $25.00. If arriving/departing on a Sunday there is a $3.00 surcharge. Cost is for the taxi, not per person.

The Marriott is short distance to 2 malls (Paseo Herencia & Palm Beach mall) and to the strip where there are many restaurants in every price point.

What Liz said.

Also, I have never, EVER seen a no-see-um ( I am trying to wrap my head around that ridiculous sentence I just wrote; perhaps FELT would be a better verb!) on Aruba and the little beggars LOVE me. I bring Off wipes, just in case, but I always end up giving them away.

Have a great trip!

re: the bugs.........at dusk and dawn often times there are mosquitos and other kinds of flying insects, but i do not think there are the "no see ums", but i have never seen those ;) ;)

good advice from liz re: taking a taxi.

although depalm is a great company with wonderful tours.........their airport shuttle is inconvenient and costly compared to snagging a taxi.

They love me too Lori, I usually return home covered in bites while my husband barely gets one. Glad to know the bugs aren’t as bad as some of the other islands we’ve been to. Thanks for the reply.

Do bring some OFF Wipes. I got eaten alive by something after dusk one evening in January. I've never been bitten before, but these were like welts and stayed itchy for days.

Taxi from the airport is quicker. Walk outside and they are there.

Enjoy

Bummer, Liz's post has been removed. But, seemed like it was liked by a few. I would saw a taxi to get to the Marriot. Set prices, no stopping for others, and it is there. We arrived on a Saturday about 1:00 pm and the line was long to get a taxi, but it went quickly. Maybe 15 minutes.

I was only bitten by a but one night. It must have been the night we had dinner on the beach. 2 days later I had large, swollen, red, itchy spots on one ankle that drove me nuts. Bugs usually like me, but this was the only problem I had.

We were at the Marriot Surf Club, but I think their palapas work the same. You can reserve a spot starting at 4 pm the day before, or 7 am the day off. If you leave stuff on a lounge chair for over two hours, it will be picked up and held for you, but you will lose your spot.

There was nothing at all offensive or inappropriate about the post from Liz. I cannot imagine why it was removed.
