Honeymoon- Westin or Renaissance?

Our travel agent worked with us to decide on Aruba. Based on our conversations she thinks either the Westin or the Renaissance would be a good fit for us. I read the reviews and I am still confused.

My fiance and I would like variety, decent food (we're going all-inclusive), nice atmosphere and great service.

We're honeymooning in Oct so no worries about kids but since we have never been to Aruba would like some insight.

Thanks!

We had another wonderful trip at the Renaissance ~ have rec. it to several of my friends for their honeymoon ( in fact one of the couples went last October) & they have loved it.

If you are going for the AI ~ I would especially rec. the Renaissance for that reason alone. The AI at the Renaissance allows you to dine at any of the restaurants in either hotel, the PI & most of the resturants in the Renaissance Marketplace. You would have the most variety.

The AI also entitiles you to non-motorizes sports on the Private Island ~

We love the pool bar ( & there is a swim up bar too) for HH & Blue Martini for drinks in the evening ~ both providing a wonderful atmosphere.

Good Luck on your planning!

Oh i thought it was only a few restaurants were avail to the AI people..

Is it true that the alcohol is only available when you are eating? (If you want an alcoholic drink during a non-meal time or at the PI) - then you pay?

Thanks

The Renaissance is not near the "hotel zone" at all - it is in downtown. It's near the cruise ships and airport - just something to know in case you care. We honeymooned on Palm Beach and it was nice to be able to walk to other resorts and still not be in a "city" like Oranjestad. (By the way, we stayed at the Radisson and loved it).

If anything ~ we enjoy watching the cruise ships pull away ~

No issues with the cruisers or being in town. The cruise lets out SEVERAL blocks away. There are two hotels that make up the resort. The Ocean Suites is set back ~ away from the street. The Private Island is fabulous, only open to guests of the hotel. Never an issue with getting a chair, hammock or palapa.

We don't do the AI ~ so, I can't speak from a personal level~ however, we consistenly saw people getting drinks with their AI cards at Blue Martini nightly. I believe it is truly all you can drink. We didn't meet anyone on this trip who was using the AI ~ however, on the last trip there we met several people who were & loved it.

I forgot to add ~ Most of the resturants on the property are ~ Ones that I know definitely are:

LG Smiths ~ Aqauris ~ Blue Martini ( Marina Hotel)

Restaurant on Private Island

Waterfront Crab House ~ Dutch Pancake House ~ Scandels ~ The Cafe ( Marketplace)

We love being at the PI during the day & being in town for the nightlife. The casino is also the only one on the Island opened 24 hours. The LG Smith lounge stays open most of the night.

abba,

I don't think you will be disappointed in the Ren. I have heard good things about it from people who have stayed there. It's just that the two are very different. The Ren is downtown which has its plusses because you can shop til your heart is content or not, and minuses because it is downtown, and the Westin is in the high rise district which is nice because you can walk to so many places, but it is not downtown. In any case, bus transportation is very cheap and can take you to either site. If there are too many cruise ships in, go to the island, an easy solution.

In any case, you will have a wonderful time.

Only the Marina hotel ( which is also wonderful) is " downtown" ~ The other hotel is set back against the water. The Marketplace is a nice size shopping area that is situated between the street & Ocean Suites. You would never realize that you are near the downtown area by hanging out at the Pool in the Ocean Suites or at the Private Island.

The Cruise Ship guests do not interfere at all with the Renaissance guests ~ certainly some might come over for lunch, to shop at the Mall or gamble..however, it does not become unbearable by any means. The Cruise ships let off a dock several blocks away ~

IMHO ~ the beaches & pool areas are much quieter at the Renaissance, similar to those at Eagle Beach. In all of our times there, we have never experienced any issues like those up in Palm Beach.

Although there are no other hotels around ~ there are certainly enough bars, nightclubs & resturants to keep one entertained.
