westin update

Just returned from seven days in heaven. If anyone has any questions, I would be glad to update you.

We stayed at the Westin, and I would not hesitate to return there. the renovations are being completed daily, but the major work is done.

The "heavenly" beds are just wonderful. the carpeting, furniture, and flat screen TVs are all new. the shower heads and faucets in the bathrooms have been replaced. We had a truly wonderful time, except it was windier than usual for a few days. The newspaper attributes that to the fact that it is Lent and a windy season.

We just booked a 3 night stay on Hotwire at the Westin. I've been to Aruba before and stayed at the Radisson, which is one of the nicest properties on Aruba. I'm a bit hesitant about our Westin stay. This time, I'm going on a girl's trip and we're hoping for some relaxation. Here are my questions:

1. How's the pool area? Nice loungers? Is the service okay and is the pool in good shape?

2. Can you walk to the rest of the Palm Beach hotels from the westin or is it a bit out of the way?

3. Is the westin beach really windy?

4. How's the RIU construction? Is the hotel fairly far along?

5. How are the rooms?

We need a room with two doubles. I wrote the hotel and asked that they enter my request into the system, but have not received an email reply back. Maybe I went into their junk mail folder? Either way, it doesn't inspire much confidence in service...

Thanks for the update. Have they done anything with the Casino yet? Heard they were renovating it as well.

Any suggesstions on room types, odd vs even, noise, etc.. Also do you have a recommendation for taking the bus or a taxi from the airport to the Westin? Typical costs? My wife and I have been on the island for our honeymoon several years ago. We stayed at the Divi Resort. This will be a different change since it will be on the high rise side.

Haven't stayed there recently but some answers:

Take a cab from the airport, it is a flat fee of $20.00. The bus is not practical. The Westin is at the beginning of the high rise section, the only hotel before it is the Phoenix. You can walk the beach all the way from the Westin to the end which is where the Marriott Stellaris is.

It is a little windier at the Westin then at the other areas but all areas are windy.

ALW,

The casino has added some new machines. there were lots of suits when we were there, but no renovations yet.

The pool was quite empty when we were there. New lounge chairs, quite close together. The pool is in good shape, but since we always stay at the beach, I can't say anything about their service this year.

The Westin is really at the beginning of the high rises and you can walk to all the others, but the Marriott is quite a hike and you really have to walk on the beach side to get to it from the Holiday Inn. The sidewalk in front of the Riu was closed when we were there so you do have to do some beach walking.

the Westin is windy but so was much of the beach when we were there. The newspaper said it was Lent and windy season, but it calmed down the last few days.

The rooms are brand new. You will like the flat screen tvs and you will love the beds. If you want 2 queens (or doubles if they have them) I would suggest emailing the concierge or the manager. I would go for the even number rooms because they overlook the pool and you can see if there are any cruise ships in town from your balcony, but there is constructions going on at the Phoenix also. The noise was not too bad and you get used to it quickly.

I would take either a cab or one of the DePalm buses from the airport. Our bus only cost us $18pp round trip.

I think the Rad pool area is nicer then the Westin, but the Westin rooms are now newer than the Rad

Hope everything works out for you

We're thinking of staying at the Westin so I have been reading these emails frantically.

ArubaAmy (the Aruba expert here) said that the Riu would probably not be finished until the end of summer or late fall.

I have read a lot of complaints regarding construction next door, but it sounds like you just have to request a room on the opposite side.

The renovations internally sound like they are coming along well.

Any opinions on their restaurants/food and entertainment?
