standard rooms at the riu palace

I am staying at the Riu Palcae for one week for my 30th bday... my bf and i tried sending them an email asking them to upgrade our room to one in the newer ones in A or B as we are booked for the standard rooms in building c :( and we were told that they can not promise anything yet and that our booking only always a room in building C with a french balcony... what is that? can i even walk out on this "french balcony???"

thanks for your help!

I'd recommend going to the picture section of the below page and get a look for yourself. When standing in the water and looking at the hotel, bldg C is on your left.

you cannot sit out on a french balcony. it is kind of like double doors that open out on to a small space of maybe one foot. i have not stayed at the Riu, but i know that it is the original building they bought from the old owner and renovated. the other 2 towers are new. definitly try to upgrade. i have stayed at other Riu Palace hotels and they have pretty nice jr suite rooms.
