Divi vs RIU

Hello all- I've searched through the message boards and I'm looking for some comparison on the Divi and the RIU. My fiance and I will be heading down for our honeymoon. We're really looking for somewhere pretty romantic and relaxing but with a good mix of socializing and some dancing. Any feedback would be greatly apprecated!

the only thing these two have in common - is all inclusive... otherwise, they are failry night and day. high rise/lowrise. newer vs older. big beach vs small beach. near the action, semi away from the action. peaceful/something in between. caribbean/southbeach.

aruba lisa's post is a great summary of some of these threads. you can also try searchign within this forum for divi vs riu or riu vs divi.

Many many discussions on this tops, as you saw Lisa list. Worth reading. They are like night and day as jasejase said - no common factors other than being all inclusive.

Thanks everyone, for some reason the search function doesn't generate anything for me. Those links were great. I had a feeling they're very different. I think we'll just have to make a decision and hope it works!

If it's your honeymoon, I would definitely say the Riu over the Divi. We stayed at the Tamarijn and spent time at the Divi since it was included in the cost. Great beach, great staff. Also stayed at the Holiday Inn...for us, and this is just my opinion, the prices are pretty comparable...the Riu is our favorite so far...

Congratulations on your up coming wedding. Enjoy Aruba.

Pack plenty of sunscreen and use it even if it's cloudy...the sun is much stronger there.

we honeymooned at the divi in 05 and have been back every year since. i guess its a personal preference. i would see the highrise/ vs lowrise thread on the main forum page under faq's for help with that decision.

the divi is in a more peaceful caribbean setting. huge compound between the divi and tam. nice big beach... not a ton to do off resort within walking distance... The rooms are a bit dated (but clean), and they are constantly updating the exterior. Its not 'elegant', but its nice. its much more lowkey.

the riu is right at the start of the busy beach with all the high rise hotels, shopping, restaurants, and 10 casinos or so (and bars) within walking distance. but huge/high buildings, with more guests, and much smaller beaches. the water is also busier with water sports up that way. The resort is amazing looking, and grand, new, and much more posh than the divi, or any of the low rise resorts.

there's a price you pay for everything i guess!

Pick the resort with the nicest rooms, biggest beds and 24 hour room service...Or do newlyweds do that stuff anymore?

Congrats on your wedding and life together!

Thank you for the well wishes! We're both very, very excited!

I think we are leaning towards the Divi because we aren't really interested in going off the property all too much and we want less people around (more privacy?) and it sounds like we'll have some more space on the beach so when we aren't in our room we can just lounge around there.

My husband and I honeymooned at the Divi in 1996 and we are going back for our 11th trip in April. We love the Divi!
