We are going to Aruba in May, and we want to know what is the best thing you did or saw in Aruba. Any advice on food and beaches would be great.
Where are you staying?
I prefer Palm Beach. As far as things to see I would visit the natural pool, go horseback riding on the beach, also shopping is nice downtown at the malls.
We are staying at the Renaissance, we got it through Interval Internation. We had a week to trade in and the Renaissance looked nice. We have been to Hawaii (Maui, Oahu, & Kauai) but never Aruba. We like to fish, snorkel and explore.
Any advice on nice ocean view/front restaurants would great too. It's our 25th anniversary so we want to make it special.
I believe the Renaissance is in town and has a private beach and near the casino. I stay at Eagle Beach which is a car ride but a wonderful setting. It's fun to explore up around Palm Beach, there are shops and a casino in that area. For snorkeling, I'd recommend Arashi Beach which is above Palm Beach. For casual dining, we like Matthews restaurant which is open air, right on the beach behind the Alhambra Casino.
For dinners, we enjoy Madame Janette's, Mirandi, Screaming Eagle, and Flying Fishbone. From your location, Flying Fishbone is probably only 15 minutes on the other side of the airport. It has a wonderful setting, especially at sunset. Tables are in the sand, with the water right at your feet in some cases. There is also a huge rock for picture posing. It's real nice.
Many good suggestions here...I would also recommend the full day snorkel on the Tranquilo...it's a great excursion and not a lot of people. Wonderful lunch with homemade pea soup, rum punch and other adult beverages.
Alot of fishing charters available right downtown at the marina (walkable from the Renaissance.)
Good snorkeling cruises that we enjoy -
Smaller, locally owned: Tranquilo and the Octopus
Larger, but fun: Mi Dushi and the Jolly Pirates (both have rope swings, too)
Restaurants we enjoy with ocean views:
Passions (toes in the sand dining on Eagle Beach)
Pinchos (on a pier over the water very close to downtown/Ren)
Marandi (on a pier over the water - just south of downtown)
Barefoot (nice ocean/sunset view - on the same beach as Pinchos)
Couple of other great restaurants downtown that are walkable from the Ren:
Yemanja (upscale); Cuba's Cookin' (casual place, good food, and entertainment); El Gaucho's (Argentine steaks); Garufa (bar located across the street from El Gaucho and has a different type of live music every night.)
On our first few trips to Aruba, we enjoyed the jeep tour of the island (they have a full day and half day tours available.) Also fun is the helicopter tour - they leave from the heli-pad right by the marina (again, walkable from the Ren.)
Rent a car for at least a few days. Drive to the Lighthouse. Check out the view. While there, visit LaTrattoria Restaurant. If interested, make a reservation for about 6:00 - 6:30. In time to relax before having a sunset dinner. Google ABC Jeep Tours. They offer several itineraries. Visit Eagle Beach . Nice stroll from Costa Linda Resort to Tamarijn. The name of the beach changes names from Eagle to Manchebo to Druif, but there is no separation or signage to note the change. Just one beautiful stretch of beach.
Visit Palm Beach. Check out the Hyatt gardens. Stroll the walkway behind the high rise hotels parallel to Palm Beach. Another MUST restaurant for us is Madame Janette's.
Wow.. thanks everyone for the great tips. I think part of the fun is the planning and doing the research. I truly appreicate everyone's advice!
For your 25th wedding anniversary, The Old Man & the Sea is a special place to celebrate. It's really pretty at sunset. Here's a link:
