Marriott Aruba Pictures?

We are going there in late November and I have been checking reviews and such. In looking at the pictures on TA I always look at the Traveler Photos rather than the Professional Photos to get a more realistic view. Has anyone else noticed that the vast majority of the Traveler Photos look very much like professional photos in a brochure? Just wondering what I am looking at there.

I just posted photos with my review of the Marriet, maybe about a week ago. We stayed 1 night due to flight and it was very nice. We always stay at our TS on Eagle Beach but I would not mind staying at the Marriet.

We stayed the first two weeks of October, here is the review I posted of the Mariott:

MARIOTT STELLARIS

- The service here was fantastic, everyone who worked there were super friendly and anything we needed we received. However, I honestly wouldn't stay here again, due to location on the beach and price of everything inside the hotel. Pool area was very small (probably the smallest pool I saw on the island), pictures online definitely made it look larger.

- The location on Palm Beach wasn't good. The water was pretty nasty - full of silt and seaweed, you couldn't see the bottom every (unlike Eagle Beach and other beaches we went to). It felt pretty gross even being in the water at times, it was so filthy. However, if you just take a short walk to the right of the resort, up toward Boca Catalina, the water gets MUCH better and is gorgeous. There are boats coming and going constantly right there at the Mariott, which is why I think the water is so dirty.

- The restaurants were SO expensive at the Mariott compared to the other resorts we went to. Lunch at the little beach bar (which was simple food), was always $40+ for the two of us (not including drinks). The Lobby cafe inside is nice for a coffee, donut, pastry, but it is really spendy as well. Pool drinks were $10-13 each!! We ended up going to Ling & Sons to buy groceries and got a case of Corona, fruit, muffins, etc. to last us for breakfasts and snacks the whole trip - and it saved us a TON of money. We just brought the beer down to the pool or beach with us, and paid $1 at the pool bar for a bucket of ice each day to keep the drinks cold. We did eat at Ruth Chris one day and it was fantastic of course, but again very spendy - $150 for a dinner for two that included meat, potato, and one drink each.

- One tip for drinks is to purchase cans of beer at the little market inside the lobby for $3/can and bring it out to the pool (the cans of beer at the pool are $8/each!!!)

- We also lost power in our room on three different occasions and unfortunately it was right during shower time to get ready for a reservation somewhere, so that was a bummer since the room was pitch dark and took 30 minutes to get power back on, and then on one occasion the entire resort lost power from 3am to 2pm the next day! I felt so badly for those people who missed their flights (due to their alarm clocks not going off).

- Casino was very smoky, dealers were grumpy and not interested in even being there it seemed, we never won while we were there, but I have heard it is one of the better casinos to go to

- Beach Palapas can be rented the day before, but you have to wait in line, get there about 3:15 and the start reservations at 4:00. Or you can pay $25 for the next day palapa. Our favorite palapa was 114

- We were in quite a few of the other resorts and really wished we would've chosen a different location, but the customer service was still superb at the Mariott, even given the high food costs and small pool area

We stayed there for the first time last April and are booked to go back at the same time next year.

To be honest, I didn't find that anything we saw in the resort was vastly different from the way it was represented in the site's proessional photos online.

I think the travellers photos on TA are genuine.Sometimes you see photos with "provided by management" which look like the touched up brochure photos with the models frolicing on the beach, but more often than not they look like photos from avergae Joe traveller, I find.

Another good source for photos is Osyter.com. We're going to the Tam/Divi and there are tons of photos of the rooms, beach, and all around the resort.

to the OP I think the professional pics and the travelers pics look similar because it really looks exactly like the professional pic in person! It is a lovely resort.
