Considering Aruba - Questions

We have travelled extensivelly thru carribean and mexico. Have just spent the last 2 winter vacations on St Thomas. Have not visited Aruba yet and are considering it. Looking at Amsterdam Manor. Want more laid back less crowded area to stay.

As far as food and drink is it comparible to the Virgin Islands? We take a soft-side cooler for during the day for beer and pop, water. We make coffee in the room in the am. We generally eat a large breakfast and snack for lunch or light breakfast and big lunch. Just depends on the day.

Can you tell me?

Cost of case of beer and water at grocery? Cost of liquor (crowne royal and vodka)

Realizing that Aruba will be totally different than Virgin Islands - what is there to see and do?

Is US $ accepted widely? On the bus?

Anything other comments, suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

That is exactly what we do in Aruba. And then we go out for a nice dinner later in the evening. We stay at Amsterdam Manor twice a year and love it there.

Case of beer (depends on brand and size of bottle) generally runs about $35-$40 USD.

U.S. Dollars are accepted almost everywhere on the island - yes, even the bus. :)

Aruba is a desert island (terrain is similar to Arizona) so it will not be green and lush like the Virgin Islands. Activities include: golf, horseback riding, jeep tours, snorkel tours, scuba diving, sunset sails, water activities, windsurfing, helicopter tours, ATV rentals or tours, Segway tours......

The water is excellent right out of the tap. No need to buy any water. Perhaps a few bottles of water then you can refill them over and over during your stay.

The liquer is resonable and often considerably less than in the states. The beer on the other hand can be almost double. The water is excellent and you can drink it anywhere anytime.. Tons of great beaches, lots of tours, sunset cruises, shopping, golf, any water activity ou can think of, great restaurants..

Vodka in the grocery stores is expensive compared to duty free. Get your liquer at duty free at your departing airport or when you land in Aruba.

Hi Jake, did you consider staying at the Marriott or is that too busy?

And as far as liquor, definitely get it in the duty free shops at the airports. So much cheaper.

great place to go. The thing to note about the amsterdam is that it is across the street from eagle beach. Eagle beach is a beautiful beach. two other places you may want to consider that are right on eagle beach are Costa Linda (you can rent from a timeshare owner) or Bucuti. I have personally stayed at both and would highly recommend. We did not think the food was expensive. Some restaurants of course can be. A first night suggestion would be to have a romantic dinner on the beach. It really sets the tone for your vacation. Another thing we enjoyed was the all day ABC jeep tour.

thanks for all the info. have not considered the marriot - not into large high rise hotels. We're more into the low-rise small places.

We are big beer drinkers. Wow those prices are high. We bought cases of 12-oz cans on St Thomas for $25. I'm suprised by those prices.

How hard is it to find a timeshare at Costa Linda?
