First, we have been to Aruba a few times already having stayed at the Occidental Royal Club, Hyatt, and Manchebo. I know staying AI is not the recommended thing to do and it is not my first choice but I am travelling with other family members that require it. In fact we were going to be travelling to Riviera Maya but we were just there this past summer and I do not have much of a desire to return. However, I do have a great desire to return to Aruba (even if it means an AI resort).
Now that that is out of the way...I have read on some travel sites that the RIU will be closing from April 13th- July 10th for (much needed) renovations. If that were not an issue I would say that RIU seems to have a slight edge over the Occidental but seeing as how we will be travelling the first week of August that is an issue. So should I book the RIU and chance it being open and running on time and get to stay at a newly renovated hotel or do I play it safe and stick with the Occidental???
There will be a small group of us travelling with ages ranging from 1-73. We will be celebrating a HS graduaton, 40th birthday, and 60th birthday. We do plan on leaving the resort for 1-2 dinners and several excursions, probably renting a car or jeep.
I know no one has a crystal ball but I appreciate your input. Thanks!!!
