23 hours in Bermuda

My wife and I have a 23 hr stopover in Bermuda in April (flying New York to London via Bermuda). We'll have all day (Palm Sunday) to explore the island. Any tips of things to do in a day? Good places to eat? I imagine we would want a hotel near the airport. We are in our mid 30's.

Bermuda is very small, there really aren't any hotels "near the airport". What you want to do is stay in Hamilton. Make sure you go to the Waterloo for high tea or the South Hampton.

The nearest hotel to the airport will be the GROTTO BAY RESORT-- http://www.grottobay.com/ ---which is just across the Causeway from the airport--perhaps 3-5 minutes by taxi.

But as has been mentioned, Bermuda is a small place--only 21 miles end-to-end by 3-to-4 miles at its widest. For a stay as brief as yours, you could select one of the smaller guest houses out in historic St. George's (approx 15-20 mins taxi from the airport...OR...a hotel in or around downtown Hamilton...where there are many good restaurants.

If you decide on St. George's, perhaps the best restaurant out there will be the CARRAIGE HOUSE on Sommer's Wharf. If you decide on GROTTO BAY, then skip dining there (basic 'hotel/resort food...okay but nothing special) and try TOM MOORE'S TAVERN a few minutes away. If you decide to stay in or around Hamilton, then try PORT O' CALL, La COQUILLE or TUSCANY. For basic '..pub grub..', try the HOG PENNY PUB. For seafood, try BARRACUDA GRILL (above Hog Penny). For good, basic Italian try La TRATTORIA or PORTOFINO'S
