which hotels are closest to the Southampton?
which hotels are closest to the Southampton?
Not sure what the reason is for your emphasis on Southampton is but...the hotel /resorts that are actually IN Southampton Parish are
FAIRMONT SOUTHAMPTON HOTEL--
The REEFS HOTEL--
This small, family run guesthouses as well--
The GREEN'S GUEST HOUSE--
WADE'S GARDEN INN--
But since distances are relatively short in Bermuda (nowhere is very far from anywhere else), you might also take a look at some of these hotels and guest accommodations in the adjacent parishes of Warwick (to the east) and Sandys (to the west)
OCEAN WINDS VILLA & B&B--
SANDPIPER GUEST APARTMENTS--
thanks for your quick response. Had already looked at Surf Side and Willowbank. Do you have an opinion between these two for 2 young women?
BOTH are lovely properties, in great locations. Of the two, SURF SIDE will be the most '..central..' to '..the rest of Bermuda..'.
As noted in their promotional material, WILLOWBANK has a Christian '..faith-based..' tilt...but from all reports over the years, this isn't a problem (though there are some issues with where and when you may drink)...but you should be aware of the situation. The beaches/water at Willowbank are 'western shore', well protected by the broad barrier reef sytem offshore and tend to be flat/calm/no surf There's pretty good snorkeling in this immediate area. On any given evening there is the potential for spectacular sunsets at Willowbank. Willowbank also has an on-premises restaurant/food service. The food here is described as 'good', 'family-style'. Willowbank is served by two public bus routes--#7--Hamilton-Via South Shore Beaches-Dockyard & #8--Hamilton-(via Middle Road)-Dockyard--from the bus stop near the end of its short entrance drive, so getting about is relatively convenient
SURFSIDE is located out along Bermuda's magnificent south shore and has a pleasant little beach. The south shore ocean views are spectacular from the hill top. The water here will tend toward mild/moderate surf...and be perhaps a bit more of what visitors ususlly expect of Bermuda beaches. To the best of my knowledge, there is still no on-premises restaurant operating at Surf Side...but many of its rooms and suites have at least some sort of 'self-catering' facilities (at least adequate for preparing light breakfasts and lunches)...but they may do some sort of breakfast service. The SWIZZLE INN-South Shore location is within easy strolling/walking distance of the property. SURF SIDE is served by the #7-Hamilton-Via South Shore Beaches-Dockyard and the #7 Hamilton-Barnes corners sub-route from the bus stop near the end of the entrance drive.
Surf-Side probably has a small advantage in terms of proximity and access to the other great south shore beaches nearby--Elbow Beach, Astwood Cove, Warwick Long Bay, Horseshoe Bay, Church Bay. But that advantage would only be a matter of a few minutes ride. In tems of sheer beauty and pleasure; Bermuda is one of those places where taking 'longer' to get somewhere may actually be 'better'. When they say that Bermuda buses and ferries have '..picture windows..'...it ain't just an idle expression.
For ourselves, we'd choose SURF SIDE....and on a couple of occasions over the years we have tried to, but they were fully booked for our intended travel dates. For preference, I'd be inclined to suggest that you book one of the cliffside 'cottage' rooms/suites..or failing that one of the rooms/suites on the upper level of the main building with wonderful ocean views unobstructed by pool etc. on the 'ground' level.
Stayed at Surf Side many- many years ago- vaguely remember a bit old and steep walk down to the water- But very nice and a lot closer then Willowbank- I'm trying Willowbank in the Fall- I /We like Buffets/Food...
Sorry..I blew right past the part about "..2 young women..". This being the case one assumes that you might like to go out in the evening to sample some of Bermuda's nightlife. With this in mind, while the SWIZZLE INN-South Shore-- http://www.swizzleinn.com/locations.php is within easy strolling/walking distance of SURF SIDE, downtown Hamilton will have the greatest concentration od shopping, dining alternatives (all types, cuisines, prices) and nightlife (pubs, clubs lounges--Hog Pennny Pub, Flanagan's, Café Cairo, Moon, etc) and SURF SIDE will be closer and more convenient to Hamilton.
Perhaps equidistant (or not enough diference to matter much) from either Surf Side or Willowbank there will be the HENRY VIII Restaurant & Pub-- http://www.henrys.bm/ which offers pretty good 'pub entertainent' over the weekend...as well as the lounges (The CELLAR-- fairmont.com/southampton/…TheCellar.htm ) at the Fairmont Southampton Hotel.
