Flights From Baltimore to Bermuda

Is anyone familiar with Air Tran from Baltimore to Bermuda? We have reservations in July 2012 and I was wondering if anyone knew when the best time to make flight arrangements would be? The calendar on their website does not go out that far. Did you have problems getting a flight? Do planes fill up quickly, or can I watch pricing for awhile? What is the going rate in July for flights to Bermuda?

Thanks for the Help

Yes- 6-7 months out, is a pain- but just keep checking(Starting in January- for a July departure).

Do not worry about room reservations- can always find one; plus about 1/4- 1/3 of the time the airlines will change someting- make sure you have most recent departure times- moved-up an hour and forgot , had to beg to check-in(no luggage -45 minutes prior- or would have been stuck on island)

Flew the new Air Tran BBWI-BDA route last August....not much choice from BWI for direct service. It was an older 737 configured for two-class service. As noted above, for direct BDA service, you'll have to wait out their published schedule...but try to purcahse your tickets as soon as possible. The lowest fare inventory sells out quickly. In addition to the fare, like many LCC's these days, the additional fees (advance seat selection & location, checked baggage, etc) and charges per segment can add up quickly. Due to other potential committments, we delayed purchasing our tickets by a couple of weeks, missed the lower fare offers and the higher fare would up costing and extra $100 or so per ticket.

>>>Do not worry about room reservations- can always find one<<<

Up til a few years ago I probaly would've agreed with this but....over the years, the number of individual tourism properties and the inventory of guest rooms in Bermuda has substantively decreased. While it's true that you can usually find guest accommodations at any season of the year; the possibilities of finding an available room at one's 1st, 2nd or even 3rd '..choice..' property, for the particular travel dates that one might want during high-summer season has also decreased in proportion to the available inventory. So, if you have a particular guest accommodation property (resort, hotel, guesthouse, private rental, etc) in mind, for particular travel dates, you'd be well advised to book it as early as possible....to be sur-er of finding '..room at the inn..'.

>>>What is the going rate in July for flights to Bermuda?<<<

Just pulled out our AirTran receipt for last summer--last week-July/1st week-August. The r.t. fare was $328 plus $114 taxes & fees=$442....then add another $20 per segment (charged at check-in) for a checked bag.

We could've booked the same r.t. flight for approx. $100 or so less had we made our reservations a couple/few weeks prior...

If your departure airport is Pittsburgh(PIT) all of your options will involve a stop and plane change en route. So routing schedules would be a major consideration (not sure who AIR TRAN cooperates with for checked-through baggage ??). An alternative from Pittsburgh(PIT) would be the various US AIR routes, with changes at either Philadelphia(PHL), Washington(DCA), Charlotte(CLT).
