Best location

Our family will be on the island for eight nights in August. We have the first four nights booked at the Fairmont Southhampton. We will book a vacation rental for the other four nights. I have researched the various sites that have vacation rentals, and have a couple of options.

Given that we will have spent some time in the vicinity of the FSH, Does the location of our vacation rental matter? Are there any recommendations as to which part of the island we should try to be based out of?

The kids are 14 and 12 and are looking forward to exploring the different beaches, snorkeling and other water activities. Which areas would you recommend we should explore while at the FSH?

I think the south shore beach area can't be beat. There are a few things to do in and around Hamilton that are easily doable on a cloudy day,but not enough to keep the kids interested for 4 days. The beaches are great and it is a pretty good base for any excursions. The beaches are awesome.

Given that beaches are high on your priorities list...I'd be inclined to look for private rental properties within the same general '..Central..' south shore area(s)--Paget, Warwick, Southampton, Sandys/Somerset parishes. There are a lots of fine private rental choices available within this general area....so you should be able to find something that will suit any other personal/family criteria--preference, priority, special need, budget--you may have.

KDKSAIL seems to have covered off all of the vacation rental options for you. If you are looking for some great things to do around Beaches and water sports, then you can find lots of ideas on here elbowbeachcycles.com/category/things-to-do/

Plenty of things available for you to try in the Fairmount Southampton area, in fact all over the island

consider this...

bermudarentals.com/west-end/…

the great thing about being based in dockyard is quick access to nearly anywhere. 45 minute ferry to st georges, 25 to hamilton. express bus to horseshoe bay 40 minutes. see also www.thewestend.com

The kids would probably love the boat. I can confirm that the Dockyard is a good place to be for transportation to all other parts of the island, ferries and buses. Restaurants, shopping and just general mooching about. We, personally, like the west end of the island and stay there often.
