Taxi to the beach

I contacted a tour company for a van to the beach for 9 people. We will be in Bermuda 1 day off a CS and wanted to spend the day at Horseshoe Bay. They want 20.00 per person round trip. Seems kind of steep, would we be better off just grabbing 2 taxi to the beach and back? And how much per cab does this cost?

Thanks in advance for any help!....Sharon

Special buses will be available to take you to Horseshoe Bay. A one day transportation pass is about $12 and allows you to use it as many times as you want including on the ferry.

It's a '..gues-timate..' since Bermuda's official metered taxi fares are due to increase by 25% soon. Bermuda's official taxi fare structure provides for one metered fare rate for 1-4 passengers and second higher(+25%) fare rate for 5-to-6 passengers. So....the taxi fare between your King's/Heritage Wharf cruise ship pier and Horseshoe Bay beach (one-way) is probably going to run $42-45 for a party of 5-to-6 passengers and $35-$38 for a party of 1-4 passengers. Bermuda taxis will only carry six(6) adult passengers.

As noted above... '..Special..' express public route or the regular #7 public bus route will get ya' there and back for a damned sight less...and public buses, with 'picture windows' (not just an idle expression) make great '..raised platforms..' to see the spectacular western shore, Great Sound and south shore ocean views as you go.

How often does the # 7 bus run? That might be the way to go. Thanks for the info.

For the most part every 30 minutes but if you are just going to Horseshoe Bay the special buses go direct without any stops.

As noted above, the '..Special..' bus route is an 'express' (no intermediate stops en route, between Dockyard (King's/Heritage Wharf) and the bus stop at Horseshoe Bay (end-of-the-line). The 'regular' #7--Dockyard-Via South Shore Beaches-Hamilton bus route is a 'local'...making all intermediate stops en route to Horseshoe Bay...and beyond (to other south shore beaches and on into downtown Hamilton). The travel time difference will probably be a few minutes longer between the 'Special' and the #7 routes. If just getting to Horseshoe Bay is your goal, then the 'Special' serves the purpose quite nicely. But given Bermuda's incredible natural beauty and the sights you'll see along the way....SLOWER is BETTER.

I'm from Bermuda...Where are you coming from in the cab?? Town or ST.Georges or Dockyard??

I think you should grab the $20!! That is a good deal!

Because a taxi will be maybe $40+ just to get there(per cab)

& The number 7 bus comes every 15 minutes.(That bus goes right to horseshoe Bay)

Not as good a deal as using the bus. However it's a personal choice. Cruise ship passengers are encouraged to use the special buses if they are only going to the beach, rather than the regular #7. People further down the road are not too happy if there is no room on the regular bus when it gets to their stop. Bermudians use the buses too, to get to work, shop, keep appointments etc.

Do I have this right? They have a bus by the cruise ships just to take people to Horseshoe Bay? Thanks in advance for all your help, just like to know what direction we are going in since there is 9 of us, lol.

There is a '..SPECIAL..' public bus route that operated 'seasonally' (during cruise ship 'season' only) that makes 'express' runs (no intermediate stops en route) between the King's/Heritage Wharf cruise ship pier within the Royal Naval Dockyard complex ('..DOCKYARD..') and the public bus stop along the main road, just above HORSESHOE BAY beach. This is an ordinary, pink & blue PUBLIC bus with '..SPECIAL..' route boards to identify it.. It is NOT operated by any cruise line. You may pay the one-way bus fare using CASH ($4.50 US or BDA COINS ONLY--NO BILLS) or purchase lower-priced TICKETS ($4.00) or purchase a one-day or multi-day TRANSPORTATION PASS (good for 'hop-on/hop-off' access to ALL public bus and ferry routes) from the TOURS kiosk, located at the landward-end of the King's/Heritage Wharf cruise ship pier.

When there are cruise ships berthed at King's/Heritage Wharf cruise ship pier at DOCKYARD, these 'SPECIAL' buses operate on an approx. 1-every-15 minutes frequency during the day.

In addition to the 'SPECIAL' route, there is also the 'regular' #7-Dockyard-Via South Shore Beaches-Hamilton public bus route that serves ALL of the south shore beach destinations.

There is also the #8--Dockyard-Via Middle Road-Hamilton public bus route between Dockyard and downtown Hamilton (does NOT serve south shore beaches).

There is the BLUE--Dockyard-Hamilton public ferry route

and the ORANGE--Dockyard-Saint George's public ferry route (operates 'seasonally' from mid-April-thru-mid-November)
