Well, you did get a reply from KDKSAIL who gave you some suggestions. Your post is a little overwhelming to read to be honest. The choice is up to you in the end. Take a look at some of the hotels listed and narrow it down. Then come back and ask some questions. If you browse through some previous posts you will see a lot of info which is already out there.

You can't really go wrong with the two Fairmonts, The Reefs, Pompano. Cambridge Beaches, Fourways, Rosedon etc. etc.

Some are fairly big hotels, the Southampton Fairmont for instance, so you may want to look at the others. Food is available everywhere so is transportation.

A budget of $300 a night may be too low for most of these hotels. When are you going?

Perhaps consider a rental, www.bermudarentals.com or www.bermudagetaway.com

By the way it is not a good idea to post a personal email address. That's why we use the T.A. message system.

>>>To give you a better sense, I'd prefer to stay in a $500 per night place but pay no more than $300 (in other words, I value "value") <<<

You need to understand that Bermuda is not some sort of 'third-world' vacation destination, where one's resort/hotel becomes their '..destination..'. In Bermuda, the relative "..value..' associated with any resort, hotel, guesthouse, B&B or private rental cottage/apartment is that it is located within the greater RESORT BERMUDA...a place that is beautiful, safe, friendly, accessible, hospitable and just '..comfortable..' in so many ways. The 'whole' of Bermuda is much greater than the 'sum of its parts'. So, the prices tend to be the prices...and relative "..value.." is already built-in because when you step off of a resort or hotel property or out the door of a rental cottage or apartment; you're in RESORT BERMUDA.

>>>Ideally, we'd like to be at a hotel which is on or very near (like across the street?) to a Swimmable beach - I understand there are some pretty beaches but that you can't really go in? true?<<<

Not sure where or from whom you heard this...but it's pretty much WRONG. Bermuda's VERY BEST beaches are entirely PUBLIC---free, clean, uncrowded, safe, no one pestering you to purchase cheap '..native handicrafts.. (curiously marked 'Made in China') or crappy '..tourist trinkets 'n trash..', incredibly beautiful and relatively easily and conveniently accessible to you. When you see glossy travel photos and posters of inviting Bermuda beaches...odds are that those photo locations were taken at Bermuda's many wonderful public beaches.

P.S. ...if you're going to purchase or scan through any published travel guide for Bermuda...then make it the MOON guide. Even then..it isn't especially good...but it's the '..best..' (relatively) of a fairly bad lot.

I would stay at the Fairmont Southhampton or the Fairmont Princess. The Southhampton if you want to just relax and the Princess if you want to be close to town and feel adventurous.

If you want romance, avoid the Fairmount Southampton as it is huge and family oriented. Any other hotel will be more personal in service. For value, I think pompano would be the best bet particularly if you take the MAP plan. Dining out is expensive in Bermuda, especially if you add in the costs of cabs which can run $20 to 50 round trip. If dining around is important stay in Hamilton and take buses to the beach.

>>>Someone can look up your home address (or phone #) and know your income, past marital record, price you paid for your home, etc.<<<

These days, anyone can damn near do that by looking up the telephone number of anyone who lives on your street and scrolling through '..neighboring homes..' until they get to yours...on some online telephone directories. A bit of semi-clever 'searching' and they can damn near discover the answers to '..Boxer or briefs ??..'...'..Morning or evening shower ??.." and a whole lotta' other stuff that you assumed was '..private..'.

You didn't think that the internet was '..free..', did you ??

One of the other not-so-pleasant things about the internet is that while you may want to protect your assumed personal privacy...any cyber-schizophrenic anony-moron can quickly and easily create alias internet identities through free e-mail accounts and '..troll..' for 'marks'....or just make general nuisances of themselves (a curiously apt pronoun in the context).

The safest way to deal with the potential is to simply hit the DELETE or SPAM icon any time one sees an e-mail address in one's e-mail account In-Box that they don't '..recognize..'. Some ISP's even offer securtity protocols that search for and identify as SPAM newly created e-mail accounts in in-coming e-mail packets.

Dunno if you have gone already, but have a look at the Royal Palms. Short easy walk to Hamilton waterfront. Very nice rooms. We stayed in one of the separate suites and enjoyed it for our 40th. Easy walk to the bus station.

And how is life at GSP Exit 131? (smile)
