P&O caribbean Cruise

Looking at booking a Caribbean cruise (Barbados, St Lucia, St Vincent etc) for December 2008. Have looked at various companies/ships etc & really fancy P&O's new ship (Ventura), plus they've got the dates we want. Have been on website & they seem to have some good discounts on there for booking early, works out around £3600 for 2 for 14 nights (cabin with balcony) which according to them is a saving of over £1000 per person. I just wondered if this really is a discount or if I in another 6 months i'm going to go on the website & find it cheaper & having never done a cruise before I'd just like some opinions please! And if anybody's been with P&O i'd like their comments as well!

Kate

PS - And should weather be ok in December...?!

I have just sent a long reply to this & it didn't go !! grrr! briefly try getting a price from a cruise specialist they will probably give you a further discount , booking early is best ,a balcony is great ,the Ventura will sell out ,Try the Tripadvisor cruise forum as well . We are off this weekend on the Oceana.

I like P&O and I think the price is probably good.. especially for a new ship (and their new ships tend to sell out quickly).. I find them more expensive then most cruise lines but worth the money.

Enjoy your first cruise..

Hi,

I've already booked a cruise on the Ventura for the 2nd Jan 09 'can't wait'. I've cruised many times with different campanies but we much prefer P & O. Their standards seem to be superior to some of the other lines and the Ventura looks magnificent. It's definately better to book early, the discounts are huge. We book through a cruise club and receive an extra 10% on top of the P & O discount.

We first discovered the Caribbean through cruising, it gives you such a good taster of the different islands. We tend to alternate 'cruise one winter and stay the following winter'. Our favourites islands are Barbados and Saint Lucia, we discovered both on our first cruise.

My advice would be to 'go for it'.

When I say this weekend ,that's all it is - a quick ''weekender'' to Brugges - like a 5* hotel that moves -we love it, you can afford a really nice room if it's just a short 'un!

Hi

We are booked on P&O Ventura for 5 - 20 Dec

The weather should be very good, we have done 12 Princess cruises (the sister co of P&O)we have always found this tome of year good for weather and have found them very good. Looking forward to a new experience on Ventura as this is an English registered ship. We sometimes found the Princess line to Americanised. I am sure you will enjoy.

Yes there are genuine savings by booking early (as we found to our cost when booking Alaska for 2007 left until late having not made up our minds)

regards

I think that sounds like a good deal. We went with P&O from Barbados in 2006, on Oceana, and loved it. One of the best parts was checking in your luggage in UK and then it arriving in your cabin. We were transferred straight from the aircraft to the ship, by bus, without having to go through the airport.

The standard on the ship was excellent, only drawback we found was that the majority of passengers were British - we usually like a mix of nationalities.
