Our Trip to Barbados- Dec. 24, to Jan.10.

This may take a couple of installments. So stay tuned.

Dec. 23, 6:00pm pacific time, Left Redmond, Dec.24, 10:00am Atlantic time arrived San Juan P.R. Spent the day wandering around in "Old San Juan" eating and drinking mojitos, took the free trolley up to the forts. 6:00pm headed back to the airport to catch the flight to BGI Dec.24, 10:45pm atlantic time landed in BGI. Cab Ride to CM was $20.00 U.S., Again confirm if the cabbie is quoting U.S. or BDS.

Checked into the Coral mist and everything was just as I had requested.(See Hotel review) Groceries, Rum & Banks.

Christmas Day on the Beach at CM was incredible, Sat on the Beach and drank too much Rum and too many Beers. Cavorted in the water and got Burned by the Sun. I'm telling you hanging out on the beach is tough work, I had to put on sunglasses, apply lotion, swim, drink, repeat...

Back to the room for a brief nap and shower and to get dressed for the Coral Mist Christmas dinner and show. What a great time Good food, Dancers, Limbo, DJ, Rum punch and all the trimmings.

I saw T shirt in a store with the print,

"What happens on the Island Stays on the Island"

The next couple of days were unwinding days, more beach work, Sunset photos, recovery, and a trip to the Big B, The supermarket is easy to walk to and they have all of the necessities, Pancake mix, syrup, great fresh eggs, cold cuts, cheeses, peanut butter, rum & beer. So you know the conversion rate at Big B is $1.98 BDS to $1.00 U.S.

For something a little different take the Big B supper shuttle back to the Hotel and you might just get a free mini tour of town.

Friday Dec. 28, We went to Oistin's (temporary site)for dinner had a great time and good food I had some chicken, macaroni pie, coleslaw and she had flying fish, sweet potato mash and slaw. I don't remember the name of the stand but our cabbie, Ricky, escorted us in and got us a nice table and we didn't have to wait in line to order, the server came to the table took the order and delivered our food. The same cabbie picked us up a couple of hours later. Thanks Ricky! So you know, most of the cabbies don't expect payment until the return trip, if you ask them to wait or pick you up. I'm Sorry I don't recall the cost of the Oistins trip. Overall we found the cab's to be very reasonable and made the decision not to rent a car based on that conclusion and the fact that they drive on the other side of the road.

Saturday was another beach work day. Ordered take out from the restaurant at CM and ate in our room.

Sunday started out with "liquid sunshine so we called Victor our favorite cabbie to take us out on a Hotel Tour. We looked at Coral Sands, Bouganvilla, Little Arches and a couple of other less memorable hotels. Several factors including, "What happens on the Island Stays on the Island" entered in to our decision to move to...

Hey jimimac... great start to your trip report.

PS - you can never have too many beers.

PSS - the shuttle from the Big M Supermarket is great and you do get a mini tour but it's difficult to see anything when your flying around corners at 75 mph. Lucky for me the van had a 'Holy Sh*t Handle'.

Can't wait to read more....

Part 2.

Preface: Our decision to move did not reflect The Hotel @ CM, the room, the service, the staff or management. It was a purely personal decision based on our personal comfort level.

Coral Sands (Hotel Review w/ pics. to be posted at a later date)just down the beach from CM, if you look to the south from CM you can see the point of the beach where Coral Sands is located. This is a lovely Hotel with great staff and they had just the room for us, on the ground level, w/ a well appointed kitchenette and breakfast bar, 2 queen size beds, large veranda which led to a large patio, great bath facilities with 2 sinks and the shower separated from the dressing area, 2 large closets with shelves and hanging, Several chests of drawers in the spacious main room.

The location of CS is fantastic with at least 6 restaurants and the Gap within easy walking distance of the hotel as well as the grocery stores and internet cafe. Best of all it was located just down the beach from the Carib Beach bar and restaurant where we spent many hours. The food & service is good and I would encourage you to give Carib a try. The CS is also located near the Crystal Waters with their Sunday afternoon BBQ & entertainment. The Hotel right next to CS is an all inclusive, I cant remember the name, they have some sort of entertainment on a fairly regular basis in the evening.

We had booked several excursions through Reggie at CM and he did a great job with all of the arrangements for us. We transferred all of the pick ups to the new Hotel.

360 Tour- Through Coconut tours Featuring "The Rooster Man" as Driver and narrator. This is a great way to get your bearings on the Island. The Bus (yes it was a large Bus w/air conditioning and comfortable seats with large windows) Picked us up at the scheduled time, and continued to pick up tourists from a couple of other hotels, with the Rooster narrating as we went by any sites that he deemed important enough to tell us about, the office is next to "The Boatyard". Where we paid the rest of the fare for 2 ppl was $125.00 U.S. We drove up to Speightstown where we stopped for a Snack and a drink and to take pictures, there was a big private yacht anchored there. We didn't wander the streets of Speightstown but the people were singing in church and we could hear them all the way out to the end of the pier. We drove Northeast and stopped on the NE coast for more views and pics. Then to St. Nicholas Abbey, Which is not nor has ever been a religious abbey, It was a Sugar Plantation and there is a tour of the house and grounds which are beautiful. It now bottle its own 8 year old rum and you can get the bottle personally engraved, which I did. We also stopped at a Church St. Michaels I think and then down to Bathsheba for lunch in a great little restaurant overlooking the coast. I will post some of the pics from the tour once I get them squared away. The tour is a great way to see a lot of the Island and The Rooster man was very informative about the history of the Island.

Old years night- In the next installment.
