Currency exchange

I've noticed a lot of you 'people in the know' say to exchange £s to BD$ in Barbados for a better rate. Are the airport rates any good, or is it like the UK's airports where you get stung?

If not, we are staying at the Sea Breeze - is there a good bank or place to exchange money nearby?

Thanks,

Kitt

There is a bank at the airport so you can change money as soon as you get through immigration. All the banks here are tied into The Central Bank of Barbados and no commission charged. Just remember to have your passport with you whenever and wherever your changing money. From Sea Breeze you can either go to First Caribbean in Oistins or Bank of Canada in St Lawrence Gap. The rates fluctuate daily yesterdays was higher than today. Enjoy.

Yep as said above, take the sterling and change at the banks, rate is currently $2.98. Change it at the bank in the airport or there are plenty of banks around in barbados anyway.

Please, please do not consider changing your money at the Airport. Their exchange rate is appauling, as bad as changing it in England. Take a few US dollars (in small denominations ) to see you through the Airport and your first night if you are self catering, then, for the best possible rate, take Sterling travellers cheques and exchange them as you need them at the bank.

we got an extremely good rate simply using our nationwide visa debit card for all purchases and withdrawels. Having checked our statement after getting back today, we got above $3 to the £ towards the back-end of last week (Friday through Sunday) when we used the card, which if I recall correctly beats even the bank rate we saw in Holetown on the Friday.
